Trust SERVPRO for Fire Damage Cleanup in Randolph

Fire accidents are a terrifying experience and can cause you to lose many things in your home. However, if you contact professional restoration technicians on time, you can reduce the damage and restore your home to a preloss state.

Our SERVPRO team can help save your residence and valuables with the skills and knowledge gained through years of experience. When performing fire damage restoration in your Randolph residence, we can remove water, smoke, and debris effectively and fix the items the fire damaged. Our fire damage repair process involves several steps, including the following:

  • Assessment
  • Smoke and soot removal
  • Odor elimination
  • Restoring contents
  • Reconstruction

Assessment

Our SERVPRO team can inspect the affected areas to assess the damage. We can create a full-proof plan and carry it out to restore your property to pre-damaged condition. Precisely scoping provides a professional approach to coordinating recovery with your insurance carrier.

Smoke and Soot Removal

Smoke and soot can reach many parts of your home, including undamaged ductwork, walls, stereos, computers, appliances, and other home electronics. Since soot is acidic, it can corrode metals and blemish porous items. Porous surfaces absorb cleaning solutions and residues. To prevent smoke residues from setting, our SERVPRO team can use dry cleaning processes to remove soot from porous materials.

Odor Elimination

Immediate removal of fire odor is critical because odor-causing compounds can penetrate materials deeply to the point of being no longer removable. The wrong processes can force the odors deeper into the affected materials. We can use specialized odor-blasting equipment like thermal foggers, air scrubbers, and hydroxyl machines to remove smells from building surfaces.

Restoring Contents

Our team includes technicians certified to perform content restoration for smoke and other types of damage. We recommend taking clothes and other affected textiles to dry cleaners so that odors and stains do not set. We also perform upholstery cleaning along with cleaning carpets, kitchen and bath fixtures, and drapes, among other items.

Reconstruction

SERVPRO is a full-service fire restoration firm that can handle all repairs, including completely reconstructing your home's damaged flooring, walls, or other sections.

For Rapid Flood Cleanup in Randolph, Homes - Call SERVPRO

When a storm hits, rainwater can seep into your home from landscaping sloping towards the house, damaged roof, clogged gutters, or improperly sealed windows. You should always check to ensure that rain gutters are clean and that downspouts drain a few feet away from your home’s foundation. Keeping an eye on your Randolph home helps you notice potential problems that could lead to moisture damage during bad weather.

While the above steps may help minimize the risk of a flood, if it happens, rapid water clean up in your Randolph home reduces the amount of damage and makes repair easier. Safety is also important during such incidents. Therefore, when you notice water accumulating in your home, turn off the power and unplug all equipment and machines. If water comes in fast or while you are away, you should have qualified personnel assess the situation before entering the house to avoid electrocution. SERVPRO is available 24/7 and responds rapidly to extract moisture, thus minimizing further damage.

Some activities during the water cleanup process:

  • Removing all soaked and contaminated materials
  • Shoveling out silt and mud before it dries
  • Deodorization
  • Drying surfaces

In flood water you may not always be able to see these hazards or contaminants. The water could be polluted with chemical substances, mold, or bacteria; thus, it is important to wear protective gear.

Cleaning Up

Stopping further intrusion into a home is crucial. Homeowners can mitigate flooding due to a storm by ensuring the storm drains are properly working and blocking any entry points to stop water from intruding further. SERVPRO crews install tarps, board up any openings to prevent further intrusion, and quickly clean up soiled areas.

Cleaning should target areas such as:

  • Hard surfaces like floors, walls, tiles, and linoleum floors
  • Carpets and furniture
  • Textiles and clothes

Depending on the amount of water, our SERVPRO crews use different units to remove moisture from homes, including light wands for your carpet and deep extraction tools, which can be attached to an extractor. Shovels and rakes help remove silt and mud.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County offers good water cleanup. Call us at (973) 895-5000. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Commercial Water Removal for Randolph Businesses

11/16/2022 (Permalink)

muddy, contaminated water, white partition and debris SERVPRO extracts contaminated water from commercial buildings in Randolph and then disinfects it. Let's get back to work!

SERVPRO Water Cleanup is Available

Businesses can succumb to water-related property damages from a variety of sources. Failure to maintain public restrooms, cleaning appliances, and plumbing can all be the root causes of a sudden premises emergency. Equally, unexpected water intrusions can occur from sustained periods of rainfall or local flooding. These events prevent commercial premises from functioning correctly and can force temporary closures that result in revenue losses. Knowing a local restoration service is essential for any premises manager that wishes to deal with these issues promptly and with minimum fuss.

SERVPRO Provides

  • Water damage restoration
  • Water cleanup
  • Emergency services

Communication is the core aspect of successful commercial water removal in Randolph. Our customer services operate twenty-four hours a day to prepare the necessary documentation, mobilize equipment and send technicians to your premises in an emergency. Understanding the context of a water intrusion event can help us correctly prepare for the unique challenges each one presents. This information can include questions about how the emergency occurred, the extent of damages, and how long ago the incident happened.

Water restoration is time-sensitive. The longer moisture resides in a property, the more damage it causes. These damages can relate to contamination, stagnation, microbial growth, and vapor or humidity impact. If the cause of water intrusion is a sewer backup, then it is likely that the high levels of contamination in the water affect the premises. Black water damages often require wholesale replacement of materials that make contact with contaminated materials. Controlled demolitions and extensive sanitization must be carried out to return the premises to a safe state.

Stages of restoration for contaminated water emergencies

  • Contaminated materials are shoveled into double-sealed bags and safely removed from the property.
  • Excess water is removed using specially designed solid waste pumps, while salvageable materials are treated with powerful disinfectants.
  • Extensive cleaning of the affected area and replacements for demolished materials are completed once the site is disinfected.

To get your business back together quickly after an emergency, contact SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County for water removal at (973) 895-5000.

Water Mitigation Strategy Protects Carpets in Randolph

Randolph Water Damage Flooring Actions

Many clients wonder why they should dry a carpet vs. allowing the carpet to dry naturally. After all, they feel that the water can evaporate over time, causing little damage to the carpet.

There are several reasons why SERVPRO feels they should apply water mitigation techniques in Randolph homes to carpets. Every situation is distinct and should be assessed based on the following factors:

  • The amount of water absorbed by the carpet
  • Ambient humidity levels
  • Construction of the carpet
  • Carpet materials
  • Primary backing
  • Condition and type of underpad
  • Existing carpet warranties

Crawlspace foundation homes require attention to drying the floor joists and sheathing, which are comprised of cellulose materials. Mold and odors can cause poor IAQ indoor air quality and damp conditions below. We check and inspect to ensure all building elements are dried to standard levels.

  • Subfloor construction
    • Hardwood
    • Particleboard
    • Multiple layers of subfloor
  • Potential for delamination
  • Presence of mold

Carpets, which are allowed to remain wet for more than 72 hours, risk destabilizing the glues that are holding the carpet fibers together with the backing, the growth of mold, and the subfloor's structure weakening if it has absorbed moisture. Wet carpets over hardwood floors can also cause the wood to absorb water and swell, causing cupping or buckling. Protect your home, fixtures, and contents with rapid water removal to mitigate or prevent water damage.

Contact SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County for water mitigation service to Easton and surrounding areas. We can help 24/7. Call (973) 895-5000.

SERVPRO Provides Water Damage Repairs to Tile Floors in Randolph

Can SERVPRO Complete Water Damage Repair to my Ceramic Tile Floor in Randolph?

Many consumers consider ceramic tile floors impervious to water damage in their Randolph homes. Ceramic tiles are not porous, and the grout between the tiles used to fill the joints is usually waterproofed when the floor is installed. Unfortunately, our homes shift over time, or there is damage to the grout, and small cracks in the grout or even the tiles cause the tile to be vulnerable to water damage.

SERVPRO provides water damage repairs to homeowners in Randolph and surrounding areas. Our services include water cleanup, drying after a water leak, and restoring walls and flooring materials, including ceramic tiles, concrete, resilient tiles, and hardwood floors.

When ceramic tiles are on the floor, water can penetrate cracks in the grout or tiles, which the subfloor will absorb. The subfloor may swell and cause the ceramic tiles to come loose at the joints, or the ceramic tile may also crack, allowing more water to penetrate the floor.

Before reinstalling the tiles, SERVPRO dries the subfloor. If access to the subfloor can be arranged from the bottom, it can be dried before we reinstall the ceramic tiles. Another approach is to remove the tile and drill holes through the ceramic tile cement used to hold the tile in place. We ensure the floor is dried in this manner before replacing the tiles and re-grouting between the tiles. SERVPRO uses non-penetrating moisture meters to check for moisture in the subfloor before replacing the tile.

SERVPRO provides the following water damage repair services:

  • Water Clean up
  • Water damage restoration
  • Water damage repairs for flooring, walls, and contents

Professional Trade Secrets for Restoring Fire Damaged Homes in Randolph

Aspects that Help Remove All Traces of Fire damage in Randolph

A fire incident can leave a permanent mark in your life both from the financial losses incurred and the physical alterations in your home. Just like insurance covers help you overcome the financial loss, professional restoration services can help restore your property to its preloss state. We work closely with Randolph homeowners and their insurance adjusters to ensure a positive outcome.

Fire loss incidents differ, so proper evaluation is necessary after fire damage in your Randolph property to determine the best steps to take. In many incidents, a considerable percentage of the problems are caused by residue deposits, unless the flames entirely consume the property. It is possible to remove most deposits left by the fire through cleaning but requires a proper understanding of what transpired during the incident. Fire & Smoke Restoration Technicians certification, FSRT, means our SERVPRO crews can evaluate the outcome of fire and determine the forces at play during the actual fire, therefore, creating an effective response plan.

To restore the fire damaged property to its preloss state through cleanup, a proper understanding of several factors is crucial because they affect the ability to clean items. The main ones include the type of materials burnt, airflow patterns in the building, the types of smoke residues left, and the amount of oxygen, heat, and moisture present in the fire. If the fire burns more synthetic materials than natural ones, the resulting residues are harder to clean. Hotter fires lead to residue impingement because they open up pores on materials complicating the cleaning process. Our SERVPRO technicians respond to these issues in different ways, including using professional cleaning agents to dissolve residues, and applying heat and mechanical agitation, among other steps. The sophisticated equipment in our green trucks to facilitate these processes includes:

  • Portable heaters
  • Pressure washers
  • Multi-surface scrubbers
  • Hydroxyl Generators

Unlike most other visible problems, bad odor is invisible, but it can make your home uninhabitable. Odor particles penetrate deep into materials making it hard to eliminate them. Our SERVPRO technicians take different approaches to deodorizing property. Using ULV foggers, we can deliver deodorizing agents that pair with odor particles, neutralizing them. We also use state-of-the-art odor control equipment such as hydroxyl generators and ozone generators.

It is possible to eliminate the painful memories of fire damage. Call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (862) 305-9757 to help. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Flood Damage in Randolph Is a Threat Requiring Need Qualified

Flooding can occur from summer storms to winter blizzards that melt and runoff into structures.

SERVPRO ensures that local residents experience a fast response to situations involving flood damage to their Randolph property. We hire people who show dedication to our community and the well-being of its residents and then provide them with extensive training. Part of this includes on-the-job experiences with more knowledgeable restoration experts who point out the variations that play essential roles between different jobs.

Part of restoring homes and businesses requires physical labor, but a significant portion also depends heavily on science and the use of technology. Because of this, our employees also gain certifications from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). This aspect of their training ensures that our customers receive the results they need to help their families recover from disasters like flood damage.

Clearing the sediments deposited all over floors and pushed into cabinets and closets requires buckets and shovels. This preliminary work gets your home ready for drying out and future restoration. IICRC training stresses the importance of following the steps in mitigation so we can provide our customers with the results they deserve.

Wooden frames and flooring can twist and warp when either too dry or overly damp conditions exist. Our moisture detection equipment helps us achieve optimal conditions at rates that prevent any other damage from occurring. Drying equipment creates airflow currents that pull moisture out of wet materials and then push that water vapor toward dehumidifiers or open windows. Installing new elements in a damp environment sets the stage for mold and other related deterioration to happen in the near future.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County's flood damage specialists are always ready to help with water extraction and restoration. Contact us at (862) 305-9757. to have IICRC-certified specialists make your home livable again.

Removing Standing Water from Your Randolph Warehouse

With the winter well underway, structures all over Randolph are battling the crippling cold weather. As cold snaps find their way into the area, immense structures like your warehouse battle to maintain warm conditions despite the general degradation of the metal building and steeply dropping temperatures. Exposed water lines within the structure can fall victim to freezing severe enough to burst the pipes, resulting in several problems for your business.

The restoration and recovery of water damage to Randolph businesses should fall to the capable hands of professional restoration teams. Our SERVPRO professionals have unique training and cutting-edge equipment to manage both the extraction and drying needs of your business. Also, we have skilled technicians capable of performing pack-out services to protect your wares within the warehouse from the potential ruin they face through direct exposure to standing water. If your company already has our free Emergency Ready Profile Plan app, our responding technicians can move immediately to shut off valves and have a more efficient approach to the recovery of your facility.

Emergency services like extraction are vital when freezing pipes burst in your facility. Water can quickly collect on the concrete flooring and pool, leaving boxed items vulnerable to direct water exposure and penetration. We have many potential tools that can remove water from the floors of the facility, but the most effective of these for widespread concerns would be our truck-mounted extractor trucks. We can direct the discharge of this standing water to the sanitary sewer and allow our most potent pump to remove water at up to 300 psi.

Drying out your warehouse falls to the capable machines in our inventory, such as our direct heaters, air movers, and dehumidifiers. Because of the colder weather, direct heaters can help to thaw any other frozen areas of pipe within the damaged area before repair and re-insulation. Centrifugal air movers can get positioned directly at the worst saturated points for effective vaporization of moisture damage.

Without the fast response of our SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County professionals, water damage in your warehouse can get out of control quickly. We have effective extraction and drying techniques to get your facility back to pre-damaged conditions. Clearing Smoke Residues from Walls and Ceilings in Mendham

8/16/2022 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Mendham your fire damage will be serious let SERVPRO help.

SERVPRO has what it takes to clean your Mendham home after fire damage.

As you have been taught from a young age, when fires break out in your Mendham home, your best action is to get as low as possible and work your way to a safe exit. Smoke rises, and that is why the bulk of the smoke removal and cleaning that our SERVPRO team performs happens on the upper half of the wall surfaces and along the ceilings. With sophisticated tools and products, we can manage these residues to prevent a need for widespread tear-out and reconstruction when possible.

While cleaning up smoke and fire damage in Mendham homes is necessary to return the structure to a pre-damaged condition, there are detailed approaches to accomplish these tasks. Depending on the severity of these residues on specific surfaces, various agitative cleaning practices can be beneficial in removing the loose particles resting on the surface to better aid in effective cleaning with our powerful products and equipment.

Convection is heat moving through the movement of air. As you know, heat rises as it is lighter than colder air, and the same practice affects present smoke in the environment as well. This cycle continues until the fire gets extinguished. These convection currents can be instrumental in depositing soot and smoke particulates on wall surfaces, ceilings, stationary fans, and light fixtures. Ventilating your home immediately after extinguishment can help to reduce these deposits.

Agitative cleaning practices like vacuuming and using light brushing can help to break buildup loose and leave only a thin layer of soot or smoke residue for cleaning products to overcome to reach the affected surface underneath. In more challenging situations involving materials like countertops, we can utilize soda blasting techniques to remove the residue, partially deodorize the area, and protect the material underneath the layer of smoke particles.

Focused cleaning efforts are a vital element to restoring your home after a fire loss incident, and our SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County team has the experience and cutting-edge equipment to overcome nearly all of the obstacles you might face after a fire loss. Give our team a call anytime at (973) 895-5000.

Become Familiar With Randolph Mold Damage Remediation Success

8/16/2022 (Permalink)

Mold Damaged room A mold infestation can seem quite overwhelming. Contact SERVPRO immediately for mitigation and remediation services.

Why SERVPRO's Full Service Approach Successfully Manages Severe Mold Damage in Randolph

When Randolph homeowners returned home from vacation, they were shocked to discover an entire room covered in mold colonies. Because of the infestation, the family left the house and called us for immediate professional intervention.

Setting the Scene

Residents seeking help in Randolph mold damage issues are stressed. Nothing can prepare for the stench and look of an extensive mold outbreak. In this case, as seen from the photo documentation, mold covered the entire room, including the floor and trim. Sagging ceiling tiles hint at water damage from above or humidity in the area so high that porous materials become saturated. After assessment and consultation with the insurance company and our management team, the decision for mold-based demolition was finalized. Disinfecting before work and after the demolition and removal were keys to preserving the safety of our work crews and the home's inhabitants.

What to Expect from Professional Mold Remediation

A mold infestation this extensive requires the highest level of containment security. Our team isolated the affected space, partitioning it off with a 6-mil sealed heavy-duty poly dust barrier. We set up a dual-barrier airlock for entry and exit and enforced a stringent rule that technicians wear full personal protective equipment (PPE). During the project, HEPA-filtered negative pressure air scrubbers cleaned the atmosphere within the room, venting to the outside. The amount of dust and hazardous debris stirred up during mold removal and demolition is why SERVPRO takes the utmost precautions during mold remediation.

Mold and Moldy Materials Removal

This mold project required demolition, resulting in many mold materials being removed for disposal as hazardous waste. The widespread mold growth, combined with the damage done to the materials infested, made it problematic to try to retain and restore the interior structures. Our familiarity with proper mold debris containment, paired with our capability to do demolition and rebuilding under our general contractor's license, is why SERVPRO was an excellent match for this complex project.

Comprehensive Cleanup

As part of any mold remediation project, strict adherence to contamination protocols is essential. A thorough cleanup of all affected spaces is vital to prevent cross-contamination. The care needed is second nature to our experienced and highly-qualified team members. Meeting regulatory marks and providing peace of mind is why SERVPRO is a top regional mold remediation firm.

Disinfection with EPA-Registered Products

Before beginning the mold demolition process, we applied a broadcast EPA-registered disinfectant. This practice limits exposure to opportunistic mold spores and debris, although the PPE and containment do the heavy lifting of keeping all safe. Once the area was cleared of mold, additional treatment with approved antimicrobials ensured that any structural drying needed would not spread moldy residues. Our team is consistent in our follow-through on these best practices, which is why SERVPRO inspires confidence even after profound mold damage.

Water Source Elimination

Mold is not known to grow in the absence of moisture. Our proven ability to find and eliminate the source of water damage is why SERVPRO is uniquely qualified to manage severe mold demolition and disinfection projects. We do not feel the job is complete until the water issues are resolved.

Severe mold challenges need the most professional and up-to-date equipment and systems, which is why SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County is the choice of many in our area. Call us at (973) 895-5000 to arrange for a mold damage consultation at any time.

Rapid Flood Damage Restoration in Randolph Homes

There is no telling what type of damage a storm can bring. Though it may appear as if your property survived the wicked winds, a walk around your property could reveal hidden problems. A storm combines physical damage and flooding. The water left at your Randolph home from flooding can be difficult or even dangerous to remove because it may contain sewage or other contaminants.

Flood damage recovery for Randolph properties is challenging, but SERVPRO can help ease the process for you. We can quickly rally manpower and equipment to respond to any-sized situation. We understand that you do not only want things cleaned but your life back.

Problems caused by a storm

  • Clogged gutters
  • Exterior damage
  • Scattered debris
  • Downed electrical wires

Doors and windows are susceptible to wind and flying debris. Our technicians inspect for cracks, broken panes, holes, and damaged frames and board up broken windows before they can be fixed. We also inspect outdoor appliances, like air conditioning units, as these can be damaged.

Dealing With Flood Damage to Your Home

The floodwater contains silt and debris, which usually flows out with the floodwater. However, any remains can be removed using shovels and rakes, and the area is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before drying.

Our team looks for and removes concealed water. Extracting standing water alone does not solve your moisture problems if the water that is hidden in your home's structural cavities is ignored. If the flooring and drywall show signs of water damage, there is likely moisture retention behind them. Therefore, we remove the drywall and flooring to get to the water.

Some Quick Recovery Measures

  • Covering leaking roofs to prevent further damage
  • Removing wet rugs and carpet from floors
  • Expedited water extraction

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County can assist with all restoration work related to storms and flood damage "Like it never even happened." Call us at (973) 895-5000. We are prepared to dispatch someone to your site.

Controlled Demo And Reconstruction After Fires In Mendham Houses

Most homeowners have insurance that can cover the often substantial expenses of recovery and repair to Mendham houses after a fire loss incident. With the speed at which these emergencies can get out of control, many property owners lack the experience or equipment to address the widespread effects of returning home to pre-damaged conditions. What many people do not realize is that while the bulk of the cost of this restoration might get covered by their insurance provider, it is still ideal for locating a team with both experience and a mindset to stay within budgetary limitations.

From the time that fire damage in Mendham homes begins, you should already know that you have out-of-pocket expenses to get your insurance company involved. Deductibles are an everyday staple to home insurance plans. They require you to pay a specific amount before the insurance company is willing to cover the rest of the current expenses. This amount varies depending on your provider and circumstances. When substantial structural damage and other effects threaten your property, however, you need work to begin as promptly as possible.

Many homeowners mistakenly believe that by paying their deductible, they have free reign to get all of the work necessary done to their house at no additional costs. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Our SERVPRO team works directly with your adjusters to determine what work is covered by your policy and what is not. We work with our customers as well to relay this information in a way they can understand and develop a plan that suits their needs.

As a comprehensive provider of full-service recovery solutions, our SERVPRO team can help your home through every phase of the restoration, including mitigation and reconstruction. Our efficient approach with controlled demolition and experienced construction professionals ensures that we can keep renovation costs as low as possible. The lower the cost of the work we perform, the less our customers take a hit on their insurance premiums moving forward.

By working with your insurance provider, we can find the ideal solutions for your property after a fire. We focus most on getting your family back into your house as quickly as possible. Our SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County has the experience and fast response to handle any size emergency. Give us a call anytime at (973) 895-5000.

Hidden Problems to Address after Commercial Water Damage at Your Randolph Office

A water spill at your office may not pose any immediate risks to your employees. However, the disruptions such incidents cause lead to untold inconveniences. Stopping the water source and cleaning up the premises fast should help restore normalcy. It also helps eliminate risks from slip and fall accidents, mainly if you have tiled floors or other materials that tend to be slippery when wet.

Restoring normal operations after commercial water damage to your Randolph office should be your highest priority. Also, paying attention to other aspects of the loss can help prevent future problems. The pooling water can cause a wide range of issues to the floor materials costing you significant amounts in repair budgets and causing further downtime in the future. Water can cause glued-down carpets to loosen. It can also penetrate beneath tiles reaching subfloors, where it can lead to rotting and other problems. Our SERVPRO crews use advanced equipment such as FLIR thermal cameras to check the actual level of water migration in your office.

Spilled water continues to harm your property if left to sit over extended periods. Working fast to extract it and dry the property can prevent such complications. For instance, it is possible to prevent wicking water from damaging walls necessitating flood cuts. It is also possible to salvage the vinyl cove molding and other materials reducing costs. Our SERVPRO technicians rely on high-capacity equipment to fast-track the process. Among the equipment we bring to a loss site include:

  • Multi-stage Vacuum Water Extractors
  • Sub-surface Water Claws
  • High Volume Extractor Rovers
  • Wet Vacs
  • Truck-mounted Pumps

Water spills can create conditions that might damage the electronic equipment you have in your office. Any direct spills can lead to rust, which can make them inoperable. Humidity levels can also cause problems if they are too high. Our SERVPRO technicians use thermo-hygrometers to check humidity levels in your office, determining whether there is a need to take intervention steps. We also ensure that electronic items do not become cold to the dew point to prevent rust.

A simple water spill can have severe implications for your operations. Call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000 to help address any issues that develop. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Randolph Homeowners Call SERVPRO for House Fire Recovery

The aftermath can feel brutal when a fire roars through your Randolph home. Although modern fire residue cleanup techniques, products, and equipment can transform a wet, blackened, and smelly structural mess back to preloss condition, your home is much more than floors, walls, and ceilings. The contents of your house -- furnishings, decor, books, pictures, documents, clothing, linens, electronics, toys, and more are also vulnerable to the effects of the fire. Consider moving these household goods and personal possessions out during restoration.

Fire damage in Randolph usually includes significant water loss related to firefighting efforts. Although the structure of your house needs fast water removal even before soot and odor clean up, the contents of your home also suffer from the one-two punch of water and soot. Packing out movable objects helps you achieve successful remediation in two ways. First, clearing the structure permits more rapid water removal, soot and other residue cleanups, and deodorization. Second, moving articles to our production facility allows careful evaluation of your everyday objects' condition and restoration potential, heirlooms, and treasures.

SERVPRO employs a Contents Claim Inventory System (CCIS) to track each article transported to our facility. Lists, digital photos, and barcoding provide a detailed inventory to ensure we account for all items through the cleaning, drying, and restoration process. The documentation provides evidence to support claims made with your insurance company.

Our production technician team follows the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration (IICRC) guides, as do our other employees, mastering the restoration industry's best practices in specialties related to building contents. SERVPRO offers freeze-drying techniques for wet papers and pictures, controlled heat, air movement, and dehumidification for furniture and electronics post-soot removal, and industrial washing machines (Esporta piston-driven) for soft items.

Ultrasonic and immersion tubs dislodge soot and corrosion from window blinds and intricately detailed household goods.

SERVPRO’s talent production team employs many other strategies to bring back to function and appearance rooms and fire-damaged items. Our focus is to restore, saving you time and money, as well as preserve memories, particularly precious possessions, after the shock of a household fire.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County commits to restoring not just a building but your home after a fire does its damage, "Like it never even happened." Call (973) 895-5000 just as soon as the fire department releases your property for assessment and restoration.

Mendham Homes Are Rescued with Rapid Water Removal

4/17/2022 (Permalink)

water spots on carpet in room, gray SERVPRO can salvage your water damaged carpets in your Mendham home's finished basement.

Are Carpets and Area Rugs a Loss from Water Damage?

Since a water spill follows the path of least resistance, water damage tends to hit flooring the hardest, particularly porous items such as carpet and padding. The big question from homeowners is if the carpeting is restorable, and some factors affect the outcome.

Whether or not water damage in Mendham is to the carpeting or area rugs, the loss depends first and foremost on the type of water spill. Clean water results from plumbing failures and is the most restorable type. We can often restore carpet soaked by gray water events such as an overflow from a sudsy washing machine. If the property owners requests, we do remove the carpeting. However, carpet exposed to black water, which comes from sources such as groundwater or sewer backups, cannot be mitigated and poses health and safety issues. If property owners wait more than 48 hours to begin cleanup efforts on clean water in a home, we handle it as black water due to the potential for contaminants.

Other factors that determine the restorability of carpeting is how quickly the extraction efforts began. We used different types of equipment, such as our portable pumps with weighted extractors to push the water out of carpeting or our Rover ride-on wet vacs that use the weight of the SERVPRO technician to push water up and out of carpet and padding.

Our technicians hold specific certifications in restoration sciences as taught by The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), and they possess specialized training for drying carpets in place. A common technique called "floating" is often used. In this application, we loosen the carpeting on one side, and air movers are positioned to drive air throughout the underside of the carpet and over the padding. This method causes embedded moisture to rise and speeds drying times. In some cases, we uninstall carpeting for drying outside of the property. Once the carpet attains drying goals confirmed through moisture readings, we perform any needed odor control to ensure the home retains no odors from the water.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County works to mitigate water damage in properties and limit loss through our restoration techniques. Call us at (973) 895-5000, and our technicians can make it "Like it never even happened."

Mold removal requires many techniques, some of which are more abrasive to Mendham Boro homes than others.

Removing mold and microbial growth is an intricate process that should begin as soon as you recognize a problem. Allowing mold to spread and worsen can be destructive to the property and cause health effects. We work fast to determine the extent of the damage and choose among several remediation strategies to manage and eliminate active threats.

Surface Cleaning Strategies

Mold remediation in Mendham Boro homes describes several initial actions by our professionals to overcome active mold colonies. Among the most heavily used in the early stages is surface cleaning. Applying chemical solutions eradicates mold spores on impacted materials on contact. We have several options within our inventory, including:

  • Sporicidal products
  • Mold inhibitors
  • Antimicrobial chemicals

Media Blasting and Sponge Pressure Cleaning

However, surface cleaning is not always effective, and more aggressive measures might be necessary. Media blasting and sponge pressure cleaning both use media under pressure to eradicate surface mold development and the hyphae of the organism close to the surface without damaging the host material.

Sanding and Controlled Demolition

The most abrasive remediation methods are often the hardest on the affected materials of your home. Sanding, for example, removes the outermost layer of the hosting element but can help prevent demolition on wood framing and similar components. Demolition can be necessary for materials like drywall and other porous construction elements when the spread of the organism becomes unmanageable.

Mold remediation is an undervalued need for many homes in the area, so many property owners do not rush to resolve the problem. The result is a greater damaged area and weakened hosting materials. Our SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County team can help with various restoration and mold removal tactics to return your home to pre-mold condition. Give us a call today at (973) 895-5000.

Why Water Damage Cleanup Should Be Handled Professionally in Randolph Homes

It is interesting, a large number of water damage calls we get for this area of New Jersey, are not whole house floods. However, what happens in one area of the home, can affect the entire property. Musty odors left by improperly addressed water saturation in both structure and contents are just one example.

The timeline for mitigating water damage in a Randolph property starts ticking as soon as there is an interior water spill. Common reasons for this occurrence are water supply line failures, an appliance such as a washing machine or dishwasher malfunctioning, and sometimes it is human error such as forgetting a faucet is on and overflowing a sink or bathtub.

During the first hour, water can continue to spread through carpet and padding as well as be absorbed into flooring, walls, and upholstered furnishings. The finish on wood furnishings has the potential to bleed onto carpeting, causing permanent staining. Drywall does not fare well when exposed to water as it wicks it quickly and the gypsum then begins to break down.

The potential for saving delicate possessions such as books or important papers is particularly in your favor if you begin water cleanup efforts within 24-hours of a water loss event. SERVPRO has access to the same equipment as the Library of Congress for the preservation and restoration of damaged books or important papers. There are several methods for drying paper-made possessions; often they are frozen until the best method for restoring the item is determined.

SERVPRO IICRC-certified technicians are trained in the deftness of remediation and know that the first course of action is to extract as much water as possible. We have portable pumps as well as standing water removal machines called Rovers. The highly maneuverable rovers use the weight of the technicians to force water out of surfaces where it is quickly extracted. This machine is especially beneficial for use on carpeting and results in lowered drying times. Lingering, musty odors from the water are most often neutralized when the premises is completely dry.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County stands ready to assist property owners with water damage cleanup and restoration. Get started by calling (973) 895-5000 and our emergency response teams arrive within hours because We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

SERVPRO Can Help Randolph Businesses with Commercial Fire Restoration

If a fire ever breaks out inside your company's break room, there is a chance smoke and flames can spread into your offices. Once the smoke touches cooler surfaces such as your walls, ceilings, or office furniture, it can solidify and turn into soot residues. Even if the flames get extinguished promptly, smoke can still affect several of your building materials and contents.

During commercial fire damage restoration in Randolph, our SERVPRO technicians know that cleaning soot residues can be a major portion of the job. Different types of fires can put out various types of smoke. The type of residue found on your office's contents and building materials depends on what kind of fuels get burnt and how much oxygen the fire has. We can use various chemicals and cleaning methods depending on the residues present.

Services offered after a fire in your office

  • Fire Damage Debris Removal
  • Fire Damage Repairs
  • Smoke Remediation
  • Soot Residues Cleaning
  • Content Cleaning
  • Structural Deodorization

If smoke travels from the fire in your break room to your office, there is a good chance hardwood furniture like your chairs and desks can get affected. Our SERVPRO crew can restore your hardwood furniture depending on the severity of damage and the type of finish. The kind of finish on your office furniture can either limit or expand the number of ways soot residues can get cleaned. It might not be possible to restore an item if the heat caused blistering or if the surfaces got permanently stained.

Dry cleaning with sponges or cloths can work well with unfinished wood or when removing loose residues. Wet cleaning with a low alkali surface cleaner can be effective when cleaning moderate levels of soot residues.

If your office furniture ever gets affected by soot residues, call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000.

Should Attic Mold Be Removed in Homes in Mendham Boro – Ask SERVPRO

Many homeowners notice a strong, musty odor usually caused by active mold colonies in their homes in Mendham Boro but give it little consideration. There is often no indication of a mold problem in bathrooms or other high moisture areas. They may not realize their roof is leaking, allowing moisture to penetrate the attic area and providing the perfect conditions for mold growth.

SERVPRO provides mold remediation services in Mendham Boro and surrounding areas. Mold spores are floating everywhere in the air looking for the right germination conditions. If there is a leak caused by poor shingles, water makes its way into the insulation providing the right conditions for mold colonies to grow. Often, when the homeowner notices the odor and arranges for an inspection, the entire attic is full of mold.

Our mold technicians can inspect the area and provide recommendations on how best to proceed. Large infestations may need to be reported to local authorities, and specific mold removal protocols must be followed. SERVPRO can provide advice regarding how best to proceed.

SERVPRO can help remove contaminated insulation and disinfect the joists and roof supports. New insulation can be installed; however, it is important first to correct the situation that caused the leak in the first place. Homeowners can also prevent mold infestations in the attic by taking the following actions:

  • Inspect your roof once per year for significant deterioration of the shingles
  • Look for shingles missing or shingles that have begun to curl
  • Check the attic space for any signs of water stains on the roof joists
  • Take action immediately to make repairs and avoid water leaks in the roof
  • SERVPRO provides mold remediation and removal for all mold infestations.

What Are the Stages of Carpet Flood Removal from Mendham Homes?

2/24/2022 (Permalink)

SERVPRO equipment drying floor Call the professionals of SERVPRO at (973) 895-5000. Fast mitigation is necessary because carpeted floors delaminate after prolonged water exposure.

Carpets can be Challenging to Clean and Dry After Flood Damage in Mendham Properties.

Carpeted floors are an attractive installation option for modern homes, which can be comfortable on those using them every day and stay a beautiful element of your property when maintained. After flood damage, the carpets of your home can be a material that rapidly absorbs intruding water. We have several steps to remove water from these affected flooring materials and protect your property.

Assessing the Situation with Job Scoping

Flood damage in Mendham homes can be assessed quickly with our production manager or crew chief walking through the affected property and evaluating the situation. Inspections like this help create a custom restoration plan focusing first on the most immediate issues of the property, which can often include elements like extraction.

Clearing Surface Water

Water removal services are among the most common initial responses to flood water intrusion. Even when the water has been absorbed into the carpet, some can still pool on the surface. We have submersible pumps and vacuums that can remove this surface concern to make trapped water more accessible.

Extracting Water from the Carpet and Pads

Deep extraction options are almost specifically designed for use with carpets and padding assemblies. When caught early enough in clean water incidents, this extraction process can protect flooring materials. Some of the tools include:

  • Carpet Wands
  • Weighted Extractors
  • Floating the Carpet with Air Movers

Is the Subflooring Damaged?

Another assessment that must be conducted is determining whether or not the subflooring has become affected by the migrating water. When this lower level has not been affected, we can remove the carpet and padding when substantial damage exists to protect the main supports of the floor.

With carpeting being a standard installation to many homes and businesses throughout the region, these components can be quickly impacted when flooding occurs. We work fast to mitigate pressing flood water concerns and protect the property. Our SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County team is standing by to help at (973) 895-5000.

SERVPRO Fire Damage Cleanup and Repair for Commercial Properties in Randolph

Fire damage at commercial properties in Randolph has an immediate impact on the business, the employees, customers, and suppliers. Businesses must shut down until repairs can be made unless temporary facilities can be arranged to house business operations, receive goods and services from suppliers, and meet sales to customers. However, many business managers focus on the physical damage to the building, which is important, forgetting about the electronic record keeping portion of their business.

SERVPRO provides fire damage restoration, cleanup, and repair for commercial buildings in Randolph. We understand fire's impact on customers, employees, business owners, and suppliers. That's why we are on-site in less than four hours from your call to begin cleanup and repairs. We work closely with the commercial owner to set priorities and focus on the contents most important to the business while ensuring safe working conditions for our employees and our clients.

For example, computers, undamaged by the fire, smoke, and water, can be removed and set up by the client in temporary quarters. Contents, including products, can be moved to a temporary space to maintain emergency service to your customers.

Emergency planning for fire damage situations has also helped many of our customers. No one expects to deal with fire; however, having an emergency plan to deal with emergency events can help the business survive these events. For example:

  • Ensure all employees understand what to do in an emergency, including leaving the building and common assembly point.
  • Develop an emergency operation plan to respond to emergencies for your customers.
  • Ensure there is a backup for all data systems, including hardware and databases, to recover day-to-day operations quickly.
  • Prepare an emergency plan specific to your business and communicate this plan to all employees.

SERVPRO Technicians Can Handle All Phases of Water Damage Mitigation in Randolph Properties

While there are many types of water damage in a Randolph property that can get planned for and hopefully prevented, there is little to stop storm damage from affecting a home. High winds knock down tree limbs, or large hail can damage roofing, as well as flash floods, bringing water into houses.

SERVPRO technicians get to work immediately in Randolph properties with flood damage. First and foremost is the extraction of the water. It is not uncommon for multiple pieces of water removal equipment to get used in tandem to hasten arrival to the drying phase of the mitigation. The techs work quickly to:

  • Make needed temporary repairs to halt further damage
  • Extract the water and dry the property
  • Apply preventative mold treatments as needed

Drying the Property

The technicians use multiple types of drying equipment depending on the property's unique needs. Floors may need drying mats, while opened wall cavities can benefit from the focused air delivery by the Injectidry System.

Cleaning and Prepping for Repairs

SERVPRO techs use their equipment and manually clean within the worksite using their professional cleaning agents, and many of them include biocide and fungicide additions for a top-level sanitizing of surfaces affected by the water.

Repairs and Reconstruction Assistance

Once the water damage service completes, if the property owner chooses, this SERVPRO location holds a general contractor license #13VH06013000. The technicians can handle all repairs needed to restore the home fully, such as making permanent repairs over the temporary ones deployed during the mitigation. Large scale reconstruction when walls or ceilings need full replacement and finer touches such as insulation, painting, and carpet installation.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000 brings professional flood damage to Randolph properties. The certified technicians are available around the clock to assist property owners when the damage happens, not the next business day.

How Do Water Restoration Companies Locate Mendham Water Damage?

1/24/2022 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Uses Experience and Advanced Equipment Against Mendham Water Damage

Water damage within a Mendham home is not a situation that should rely on visuals. Once water enters a property via a burst pipe, sewer backup, or floodwater, it flows along the path of least resistance and rapidly seeps underflooring and wicks into walls. It is impossible to look at a vanity or kitchen cabinet and know the amount of water (if any) that has collected underneath.

Professional water restoration companies in Mendham, such as SERVPRO, rely on their training, experience, and multiple detection devices to determine the true scope of the cleanup area. The main focus is making sure the property owner is informed and understands what the techs are doing during each phase of the water mitigation service.

  • The service starts with scoping
  • Determining the water category and applying appropriate measures
  • Safety check to confirm the structure is sound

Basic Scoping Techniques

The technicians move rapidly around the structure and use their training for visual assessment and professional equipment such as infrared cameras, probes, and moisture meters. This beginning of the service quickly determines the areas of the property that need addressing first. If any sites need temporary repairs, those get done at this time.

Water Types and Categories

The technicians determine the source of the water damage and assign a category. For example, water from a pipe under a kitchen sink is not as hazardous as a sewage backup in the home, which spills contaminated water throughout the area. In cases where contaminants are present in the water, as determined through testing, the technicians treat the water to make the water safer to handle during extraction.

Safety First During Water Mitigation Services

The inspection to look over the property looks for possible dangerous situations such as sagging ceilings or floors too wet to hold the weight of a technician and their extraction equipment. In these cases, truck-mounted units with hoses may get used to ensure the floor does not collapse. The technicians carefully inspect baseboards, insulation, cabinets, crawlspaces, ductwork as needed, and more.

Mendham residents trust SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000 among water restoration companies in the local area. The certified, trained techs are available 24/7 for any size and type of water cleanup service needed.

SERVPRO Techs Have Vast Experience Handling Mendham Fire Cleanup

Among the many types of home disasters in Mendham, housefire cleanup is one of the kinds that homeowners should never attempt on their own. There are ways those innocent self-cleaning techniques can worsen fire and smoke damage.

During a fire damage restoration job in a Mendham property, there are many common actions SERVPRO technicians undertake. Before the cleanup can begin,  the technicians communicate with First Responders regarding known hazards within the party and confirm it is safe to enter.

Scoping the Damage in the home

The inspection during the fire cleanup by SERVPRO covers several layers of the restoration service. Not only are the techs ascertaining the safety to work within the structure but also:

  • Articles and building materials that need removal for disposal or cleaning
  • Areas of the home requiring controlled demolition
  • Portions of the property needing water extraction services and drying
  • Places that need temporary repairs or security measures taken

Controlled Demolition

Unfortunately, this action is often a large part of the fire cleanup process. Severely smoke-damaged or charred building materials have no potential for reuse through even the advanced cleaning methods employed by SERVPRO. The technicians carefully remove the minimum needed.

Air Quality Measures

While the odor from a grill on steak night smells great, a house post-fire smells horrible. SERVPRO technicians work to remove smoke damage and odors from homes as part of the restoration service. This phase of the mitigation can include running air scrubbers during the cleanup and the use of odor control equipment specifically designed to eradicate odorous soot particles.

Repairs

Our SERVPRO location offers a general contractor license #13VH06013000. It can offer local property owners the option to have the technicians move from the restoration service to perform any repairs the home needs to remove all traces that a housefire occurred.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000 is the company that Mendham residents trust for fire damage restoration services.

  • Avoid costly damage – Mold spores can slip into your HVAC system and small crevices and cracks throughout the home. How Destructive Can Winter Weather Conditions Be to Randolph Properties?

12/22/2021 (Permalink)

snow covered house SERVPRO says--winterize your Randolph home against ice dams on the roof and frozen pipes with correct insulation and temperatures

Early steps reduce water damage to Randolph homes in the winter

The winter months can welcome a wide range of weather conditions for Morris County, and our SERVPRO team must work fast when this storm damage or subsequent water damage overwhelms a home.

Avoiding the Costly Damage of the Winter Season

Among the greatest concerns for the winter season are frozen pipes and ice damming on Randolph homes. When left unchallenged and unresolved, these conditions can become costly, destructive situations for property owners. Here are a few preventative measures can be taken to ensure that the worst of these effects do not threaten your household. These include:

  • Installing Better Insulation – Plumbing exposed to harsh temperatures should be covered with insulation to keep the pipes warmer and less directly affected by colder conditions.
  • Keeping Pipes Exposed to Warm Air – It is important to make sure the pipes likely to freeze are surrounded by warmer air whenever possible. Open cabinets and doors provide an easier path for this air to reach sensitive plumbing.
  • Protecting the Roof from Ice Formation – Preventing ice formations on the roof eaves is a combination of multiple steps property owners can take. The first and most direct of these is the installation of heated cables over this susceptible area. Make sure that the attic has adequate and uniform insulation.

Restoring Your Home After Water Damages

When you do not address these potential problems in time, severe damage can result to the property. When burst pipes or flooding in the attic become urgent situations, SERVPRO is here to help. We have leading restoration equipment and experienced personnel to address immediate concerns like standing water, saturated structural elements, and damaged contents.

The winter months can be heavily damaging to area homes, especially during cold snaps with extreme temperature drops. Our SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County team appreciates the urgency of fast and reliable restoration when disasters occur, and we mobilize fast after the first notice of loss. We are here to help 24/7 at (973) 895-5000.

SERVPRO Helps Mendham Businesses Plan For Water Removal and Receive Faster Service

Mendham businesses facing water loss on commercial properties typically deal with incidents of moisture buildup that have accumulated over several days, weeks, or even months. Slow leaks that are not quickly identified and mitigated can create a thriving environment for mold and costly structural damages.

SERVPRO professionals respond to commercial water removal calls in Mendham 24/7, including holidays, to lessen the potential impact of a disaster. This firm also coordinates with local businesses to create an easy-to-implement Emergency READY Profile Plan --ERP--that helps staff and property owners act fast when disaster strikes.

Water Mitigation Strategies for Commercial Property Owners

One of the most damaging aspects of water loss on commercial properties is moisture migration. As water penetrates porous surfaces and travels across nonporous ones, it seeps into wood framing, sheetrock, subfloors, and insulation, where it can continue to spread. Over time, these materials lose structural integrity and can break down without professional mitigation.

SERVPRO restoration technicians can:

  • Remove excess moisture with portable or truck-mounted extractors depending on the scale of the disaster
  • Dry surfaces with powerful air movement and dehumidification equipment
  • Safely sanitize surfaces with OSHA-approved biocides

SERVPRO’s Training Provides Techs with the Knowledge Necessary to Preserve Mold-Affected Homes

How Can Randolph Business Owners Save on Ceiling Water Damage Restoration?

water leaking through the ceiling tiles in a room Ceiling leaks are often the result of floor leaks on a different level of a building. Contact SERVPRO to evaluate the situation and help you.

SERVPRO Provides Randolph Facilities with Rapid-Response Water Damage Restoration

Floor leaks in the upper floors of a commercial space can quickly turn into ceiling and wall leaks that damage lower floors. This can be especially challenging to tackle in a commercial facility, which requires specialized care to ensure that Randolph sanitation regulations are observed throughout the water damage cleanup process.

Randolph entrepreneurs seeking water damage restoration can expect emergency-response services from SERVPRO. Technicians are highly trained in every step of the commercial mitigation process, from initial facility inspection to moisture extraction to structural drying. SERVPRO also performs necessary structural repairs after cleanup.

Structural Drying for Ceiling Tiles and Sheetrock

Ceiling tiles are typically more cost-effective to replace than repair. However, sheetrock can typically be repaired after drying with air movement and dehumidification equipment. Unlike walls, which usually require air movers to be positioned at 45-degree angles during drying, ceilings require a different setup.

  • SERVPRO techs can cut out waterlogged sheetrock or remove unsalvageable tiles before extraction and drying begins
  • Technicians can also use thermal imaging cameras, sensors, and meters to evaluate moisture levels in the ceiling cavity before drying
  • Holes in the ceiling allow air movers to circulate air throughout the cavity between the ceiling and upper subfloor
  • Air movers must be at 90-degree angles to force air upward into ceilings
  • Dehumidifiers typically use low-grain refrigerant coils or desiccants to isolate moisture for disposal in an approved treated sewer

Business owners who need “Like it never even happened,” mitigation can contact SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County by calling (973) 895-5000.

SERVPRO Offers a Premier Water Damage Restoration Service to Mendham Homes

10/11/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO vehicle outside job site. Water damage restoration services by SERVPRO are second to none. Our goal is to have your home back to preloss condition ASAP.

Why Is SERVPRO the First Choice of Mendham Homeowners When it Comes to Water Damage Restoration?

A successful water damage restoration of your Mendham home is achieved only when the moisture level is brought back to preloss conditions. Professionals like SERVPRO use several pieces of equipment, including water extractors, dehumidifiers, and air movers, to remove the excess moisture and prevent any secondary damage.

SERVPRO techs use dehumidifiers to reduce the amount of water vapor in the air during water damage restoration of your Mendham home. These equipment are designed to decrease the humidity ratio of the air that speeds up the evaporation rate in the building and its contents. As the moisture continues to evaporate into the air, the dehumidifier continues to remove it until the structure and contents are dry. It is important to use the right dehumidifying equipment to ensure that proper drying is achieved. SERVPRO techs have the knowledge and experience to ensure that the right equipment is used for a given set of conditions.

What are Low Grain Refrigerant Dehumidifiers that SERVPRO Techs Use During Water Cleanup from Your Mendham Home?

Low Grain Refrigerant (LGR) dehumidifiers are similar to the standard refrigerant dehumidifiers but offer significant advantages. The pre-cooling component is the biggest difference between a conventional refrigerant and a low grain refrigerant (LGR). An LGR re-cools the air before it moves across the evaporator coils; however, they still work most effectively within a range from 70° to 90°F. Some high-temperature (HT) units remain effective in warmer conditions.

Since LGRs can produce lower humidity ratio conditions than conventional refrigerants, they will often speed the drying process as humidity in the affected area drops. They will be more effective at drying hardwood floors and other difficult materials.

Can SERVPRO Save Randolph Homes from the Effects of Flood Damage?

10/11/2021 (Permalink)

flood in basement Flood and storm damage restoration is no DIY project. SERVPRO techs are ready 24/7 365 days a year.

Fast Response and Efficient Restoration from SERVPRO Techs can Save Randolph Homes from Long-Term Flood Damage.

Water accumulated on your property after a storm is often contaminated, posing a unique challenge to the restorers. Professional restorers like SERVPRO have the right training, tools, and equipment to safely handle contamination issues during flood damage mitigation to your Randolph home.

Once the SERVPRO techs arrive to restore flood damage to your Randolph home, the first thing they do is assess the situation. SERVPRO techs use several pieces of equipment to determine the extent of water damage, such as moisture meters and thermohygrometers. After the assessment of the scope of the damage, the next step is to form a restoration plan that is fast and effective.

What is the Role of Luminometers during Flood Restoration of Your Randolph home?

SERVPRO techs often use Luminometers to determine the extent of contaminated surfaces and standing water on your flood-affected Randolph property. Although luminometers do not replace the need of an Industrial Hygienist (IH), they serve as a good starting point.

Organic residues often contain a large amount of ATP (energy-generating molecules), which can harbor bacteria and other microbes if left on any surface. A luminometer detects these ATP molecules and helps to determine the level of contamination indirectly.

SERVPRO techs use this equipment to help decide if a consultant or hygienist should be called in to document and provide a restoration protocol. These meters are helpful as a self-check before having the hygienist return for clearance testing.

If you have any questions regarding flood damage restoration or any other water-related disaster, call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000. Our technicians are available 24/7 to answer your queries.

Can SERVPRO Get Rid of Odors During Fire Damage Restoration of Your Randolph Home?

SERVPRO Techs Eliminate Odor During Fire Damage Restoration of Randolph Properties Using Advanced Deodorization Techniques

Combating odors during fire damage restoration of your Randolph home can be a challenging task. Professional restorers like SERVPRO use specialized equipment and techniques to eliminate even the toughest odors due to smoke damage.

SERVPRO techs begin the deodorization process during fire damage restoration of your Randolph home by analyzing the type and intensity of the odor. While some smells can be easily handled by masking agents, others need stronger deodorizing techniques. Neutralizing odor particles lodged in pores of surfaces are among the toughest to deodorize. SERVPRO techs use thermal foggers to create a fine mist of deodorizing agent that behaves similar to smoke and hence, can neutralize the particles present in the pores.

How Does an Ozone Generator Work to Deodorize Fire Damaged Homes in Randolph?

SERVPRO techs use Ozone generators to combat hard-to-neutralize odors, including protein smoke.

These machines generate ozone (O3) or enriched oxygen gas, a powerful oxidizing agent. Ozone deodorization works best if the odor-causing molecules are organic (contain carbon as their base element). It also destroys the microbial Volatile Organic Compounds (mVOCs) produced by bacteria and other microbes. Once ozone combines with the odor-causing molecule, it decomposes back to oxygen, and hence there are no harmful byproducts formed with this method.

However, it is important to note that SERVPRO techs would need to evacuate your home of all forms of life before using this method. Ozone is not effective in deodorizing inorganic odors, and it can degrade natural latex rubber.

SERVPRO adheres to the OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Agency) guidelines while using ozone generators. Our technicians undergo extensive training in the safe use of these generators.

SERVPRO Streamlines and Simplifies Wrap-Around Water Damage Restoration in Randolph

Water damage in Randolph, as well as other locales, sometimes requires a simple mop-up. All too often, however, water-soaked building materials create a more complicated set of circumstances that need a long list of interventions before a house returns to preloss condition. Lingering moisture and water remain, exposing residents to secondary damage like mold damage and weakening of supportive structures.

Can a Reputable Water Damage Restoration Company Offer Services Beyond Extraction and Drying?

SERVPRO crews are experts in water detection, water removal, and applied structural drying, relying on best practice training from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) to manage these phases efficiently and appropriately for your Randolph home. Some tasks that facilitate effective water removal and any removal, replacement, repair, or rebuilding require specific skills not every water damage restoration has. Still, we make sure to include them in our repertoire.

Why Does SERVPRO of Southeast Morris County Hold a General Contractor’s License?

Frequently during a water disaster recovery project, the skills of a general contractor are helpful. Our construction division fills an obvious need when assessing for structural integrity or proposing, planning, and implementing controlled demolition. Tasks that fall in this purview include:

  • Constructing supports for weakened structures
  • Securing damaged exteriors after storm damage
  • Creating outlets to release trapped water, such as weep holes, drainage holes or flood cuts, removing damaged building materials without risking the integrity of underlying structures

Can SERVPRO Manage Rebuilding in Randolph After the Water Mitigation and Remediation Complete?

Whether your home suffers from damage tracing directly to a water emergency or controlled demolition left spaces bereft of drywall and full of water drainage holes lining up a build-back contractor is unnecessary when SERVPRO is already on the job. Hanging drywall, repairing warped flooring, or realigning cabinets are all examples of water damage repairs SERVPRO completes as part of the larger water damage restoration plan.

Hiring SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County covers your water damage restoration project from initial assessment through any build-back. Save time and money with one cohesive plan by calling (973) 895-5000 and exploring your options.

a full tank of water in a basement with pipes coming out of it Affected by flooding after a storm? Team SERVPRO can help with certified technicians and the necessary water removal equipment to tackle the job.

SERVPRO Technicians Use Sophisticated Moisture Detection and Measuring Devices to Resolve Hidden Mendham Flood Damage

During the height of a severe storm in Mendham, flood damage threatens, water rising in the lower levels of homes. When the winds wind down, and the rain clouds disappear, you might be pleased that little to no standing water seems left in your basement.

Do You Need to Have Your Mendham Home Inspected for Hidden Flood Damage After a Storm?

It is likely the water you noticed inching up in the basement did not simply disappear. Floor drains or a sump system direct the fluids outside of your home. On the other hand, the water, potentially loaded with contaminants, could remain in the recesses of your home, ready to create a different kind of havoc, including harboring mold and progressively destroying building materials.

Who Can Locate and Help Plan for Eradication of Trapped Floodwaters?

Our SERVPRO managers and technicians have sensitive moisture detection and moisture level measuring tools in every one of our fully-stocked service vehicles. We use these to find lingering water:

  • Moisture Sensor -- has penetrating probes and indicates the presence of moisture.
  • Moisture Meters -- penetrating and nonpenetrating, measuring levels to set drying goals and monitor progress.
  • Infrared cameras -- use temperature variations to discern where fluids or high levels of moisture linger.
  • Thermo-hygrometer -- tracks temperature and relative humidity during the drying process

How Do SERVPRO Workers Reach and Manage Hidden Basement Flooding in Mendham?

The SERVPRO crew uses a range of strategies to release and remove trapped water. We choose one or more approaches:

  • Drill holes in baseboards to drain water caught behind drywall or paneling
  • Drill into mortar joints to "bleed" water stuck in cinder block cells or behind other brickwork
  • Saw "flood cuts" in drywall or lath and plaster above flood line to release water and remove ruined building materials
  • Remove ceiling tiles or punch weep holes to permit overhead water a safe and controlled outlet

Avoid the expense and disruption of secondary damage from trapped flood water in your basement with an assessment and project plan from SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County. Call for assistance 24/7 at (973) 895-5000.

How Can Black Mold Get Removed Quickly?

Mold damage in Mendham homes can spread quickly under the right conditions, making it vital for our professionals to identify the damage and begin removing active colonization as soon as possible. Depending on the affected hosting materials, multiple remediation practices are necessary when restoring and recovering your damaged home. Black mold targeting drywall, wood, carpets, upholstery, and fabrics can benefit from several approaches like:

  • Abrasive cleaning
  • Sporicidal products
  • Sanding
  • Media blasting/sponge pressure cleaning

Does Mold Removal Affect Lingering Odors?

The actions taken to remove mold and microbial threats can often be a beginning step in eliminating or reducing harsh, musty odors common to mold colonization. When these remediation strategies do not remove them entirely, we have direct deodorization equipment and proprietary products to neutralize them permanently.

SERVPRO Restorers Work Diligently to Bring Randolph Hardwood Trim and Furnishings Back to Pre-Loss Condition After a Household Fire

Older and historic homes in Randoph suffering fire damage present heartbreaking issues if smoke, soot, charring, and heat affect hardwood fixtures and furnishings. Although certified and trained restorers can clean and deodorize some hardwood fire damage, success depends on the hardwood’s finish and the extent of the harm.

How Does the Type of Finish Impact the Chance of Hardwood Restoration in Randolph?

Perhaps the most common hardwood “finish” encountered by SERVPRO technicians is no finish at all. We find unfinished wood in cabinet interiors and drawers and on the underside, backs, and furniture tops. Woodwork is unfinished on the side flat against walls. Unfinished wood is:

  • Porous
  • Absorbs smoke residues, odors, and moisture
  • Best suited for dry cleaning methods -- dusting, brushing, dry sponging
  • Denatured alcohol can work if other efforts cannot

Are Some Types of Fire Damage to Finished Hardwood in Randolph Impossible to Restore?

If the fire damage is extreme, SERVPRO technicians might need to resort to refinishing. We look at the following to decide whether cleaning and restoration can proceed:

  • Blistering -- if the hardwood was so close to the heat that the fire blistered or scorched the original finish, it might need removal and reapplication.
  • Staining -- light and ashy soot bushes off. Sticky soot from combusted plastic, rubber, or protein-based soot from a kitchen fire can stain and require refinishing.

What Are Effective Strategies for Fire Damaged Finished Hardwoods in Randolph?

  • When the soot level is moderate and adhered, a low alkali wet cleaner sprayed and wiped can give good results. Mild oil-based detergents can also work, wiped with the wood grain.
  • Heavier residues can respond to a semi-refinishing method. Careful application of a slightly abrasive wood cleaning paste removes a thin layer of soot with the assistance of extra-fine steel wool. This method can also solve watermark problems on the finish common after a fire extinguishes with water.

Place your trust in the skilled fire damage restorers of SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County after a residential blaze affects treasured hardwood furniture or woodwork. Call (973) 895-5000 to explore your options.

Is Engineered Wood Salvageable After Water Damage in Randolph Homes?

8/18/2021 (Permalink)

Drying Mats We have the training, expertise, and state-of-the-art equipment to restore your home to pre-damage condition after a water incident.

With a Swift Water Restoration Response, We Protect Many Installed Materials in Randolph Properties.

Water damage incidents come in all sizes, making their overall impact on sensitive building materials vary as well. Engineered wood flooring is a common element in modern homes but can be heavily damaged and degraded by water.

What Makes Engineered Wood Challenging to Restore?

Water cleanup in Randolph homes impacts many building materials almost immediately upon exposure. With small seams to engineered wood flooring, it does not take long for standing water to penetrate this surface layer and encompass planks with damaging moisture. Surface water cleaning should be the priority to allow for moisture meters to detect damp pockets that require further attention.

What Actions Preserve Engineered Wood Flooring?

When moisture damage has been identified in the flooring material, there is a finite amount of time before irreparable harm results. Water can initially go through phases of bonding with the wood cellulose, beginning with surface and free water and moving to trapped and then bound water. At this final stage, there is no salvaging the floors. Initial drying involves multiple tools like:

  • Drying Mats
  • Air Movers
  • Low Grain Refrigerant (LGR) Dehumidifiers

With a water damage incident that affects multiple rooms, varying floor materials will be impacted by migrating moisture. Our SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County team can help with swift extraction and drying solutions to limit build-back. Call us at (973) 895-5000.

When Flood Damage Ravages Randolph SERVPRO is Ready

Extreme weather patterns have brought significant flooding activity to the Randolph area in recent years. When a homeowner sees the water rising in the lower levels of a snug and comfortable dwelling, it is devastating. Fast action is necessary because water itself is very destructive, and floodwater mixed with debris, including mud, field and landscaping chemicals, sewage, dead animals, and more, is catastrophic in its effects.

When contaminated water from the neighboring area sweeps flood damage into your Randolph home, help is needed immediately. Our team of disaster response experts is on the move to you within hours of your first call. A seasoned project manager assesses the damage, devising a workable plan to remove the water, containing it for hazardous waste disposal if necessary. Technicians trained in the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification (IICRC) best industry practices implement the plan.

SERVPRO service vehicles are loaded with the equipment, products, and tools needed to extract excess water and then clean and disinfect the spaces affected. We use thermal imaging to locate any water trapped behind structures and take baseline moisture measurements to inform our ultimate drying goals. When dealing with floodwaters, we take particular care, typically characterized as Category 3 or black water, the most contaminated.

When living areas flood, carpeting, and padding is usually discarded, as is most insulation. Cleaning these fixtures is difficult because of the residues and debris in the water. EPA-registered disinfectants do an excellent job of sanitizing solid surfaces, and the SERVPRO crew is skilled in their application.

Once the water is out and the area disinfected, SERVPRO technicians create a perimeter of air movers, heaters, and dehumidifiers to dry the flood damaged space. To ensure that the warmed, dry air pulls moisture from cavities, we might make flood cuts near the floor and ceiling to create a chimney effect. Our workers monitor the moisture content of structural components and the air to ensure we achieve drying goals.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County is ready to answer the call when residents find their lower levels flooded. Call us at (973) 895-5000 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to set up an assessment.

How Thorough Cleanup Helps After Fire Damage

An incident involving fire can have long-term ramifications for your property if not appropriately managed. Among the issues that can cause long-term problems are the charred debris and residues left by the blaze. We offer professional cleanup and restoration services that help eliminate foul odors, staining, corrosion, and other forms of deterioration on surfaces.

After fire damage in Randolph, cleaning up a property takes several steps, including cleaning up contents and removing residues through manual and chemical means. Our SERVPRO technicians separate items into three categories depending on the level of damage. We set aside unsalvageable items for disposal and take questionable items offsite for cleaning. We also clean salvageable contents on-site if necessary. Such separation helps fast-track the restoration process.

Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration and Cleanup

Some aspects of the fire, such as extreme heat, make it harder to remove residues because heat opens up pores on surfaces allowing deeper penetration of residues. The age of the materials in the affected areas also matters because older materials might be more porous. Deeper penetration of residues can lead to long-term odor problems or faster deterioration of finishes applied on surfaces. Our SERVPRO technicians rely on their Fire and Smoke Remediation training to identify residues and capture them. We use air and fluids through vacuuming and dissolving processes to remove soils from affected areas.

You may consider throwing away all charred building materials. However, through restorative cleaning processes, it is possible to save some items. By retaining more items, you can reduce the overall cost of restoration. Our SERVPRO technicians use advanced restorative cleaning approaches to fix slightly charred materials or areas heavily soiled. Among the methods we rely on include peroxide-active cleaning, which cleans acoustic porous and non-porous materials such as ceilings. We also use soda blasting, which helps remove soils without ruining the underlying materials.

To effectively deal with the effects of fire damage, call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County to help you clean up. You can reach us at (973) 895-5000 any time.

6/26/2021 (Permalink)

ceiling tiles removed from a building Mold damage can get out of control quick. If there is a possibility of damage in your business call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County for help.

Mold Damage Remediation for your Business

One of the worst mistakes made in treating mold damage is treating visible mold with DIY treatments. Mold requires professional mitigation.

When SERVPRO technicians remediate mold damage in Mendham, they know that mold growth is a symptom of a more significant issue. Upon arrival at the business, the techs scope the property to discover the cause for the elevated moisture levels supporting the mold growth.

Cross-Contamination is a Concern

Until the addressing of the reasons for the mold infestation, reestablishment of mold colonies is a possibility. To inhibit the spread of spores, technicians put up barriers and contain the worksite.

Humidity Levels are Crucial in Halting Mold Growth

Mold cannot exist when ambient humidity levels are below 50%. SERVPRO technicians take air quality measurements before, during, and after the drying process to ensure standards maintained are below ideal conditions for spore germination and growth.

Controlled Demolition or Other Abatement?

There are different methods for the mold damage removal of dried mold colonies. Technicians choose the cleaning process depending on the surface. Dried infestations sometimes require removal by hand with gentle scraping and using a hand vacuum. Other standard procedures include soda blasting, where a soda bicarbonate mixture works as a light abrasive to remove dried mold colonies cleanly.

Repairs and Reconstruction

SERVPRO carries a general contractor license #13VH06013000 and helps the business owner with any needed repairs or reconstruction. Sheetrock compromised by mold requires cutting away and removal, and there are often ventilation issues or unseen leaks requiring repair to stop the cycle of mold. After scoping the property to find the cause of the mold damage, technicians provide property owners with a list of needed repairs and any necessary reconstruction to restore the business to its pre-mold condition.

Proactive Treatments for Mold

Professional Water Removal in a Randolph Home

Bathtime with the little ones can often prove to be an adventure. When you have small children that decide to overflow the bathtub and cover your bathroom tile and hallway carpet with water, the prospect of water removal can be overwhelming to consider between all of the other obligations of daily life.

If your little ones have a little too much fun during bath time and you need water removal in your Randolph home, SERVPRO professionals are here to help. Our team is outfitted with the latest water detection, extraction, and drying equipment to mitigate damage to your home. Infrared cameras can be used to measure moisture levels behind walls and other structures. We use scientific drying principles for fast and reliable methods of eliminating moisture in your home. OSHA-approved cleaners and EPA-registered biocides can be used to disinfect surfaces on your property and prevent bacterial growth after a home has suffered water damage.

After you call one of our SERVPRO representatives, we can have a team out to you within hours to assess your flooring and subflooring damage. Moisture sensors and meters can be used to examine moisture levels in your carpet and on your bathroom floor. From there, we can prepare your flooring for drying. The carpeting may be pulled up, so drying can better affect both the carpet surface and the padding underneath.

Whether tile or carpet, drying floors is crucial to preserving both the surface and the subflooring that is supporting it. If left unchecked, water can seep into the wooden framework of your home and become a haven for mold and structural damage. Our team uses air movers and dehumidifiers to extract moisture from surfaces and replace it with warm, dry air so any damage is dried quickly and efficiently.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County strives to leave every residential water damage disaster restored to its pre-damage condition, or as we like to say: "Like it never even happened." If you need our services to clean up your disaster, give us a call today at (973) 895-5000.

We ask our clients to switch off the main power supply and avoid getting into contact with the water on the ground. If you cannot locate the circuit breaker, ensure to contact a professional electrician to switch off the power supply.

How do SERVPRO professionals speed up the drying process?

Effective drying is an essential step during the restoration process. Speeding up the drying process is essential because it minimizes chances of secondary damages such as:

  • Mold growth
  • Persisting odor
  • Structure instability

Since there is no electricity supply on your property, our experts can use a portable generator to power our equipment. We can use electric submersible pumps to extract excess water from your basement.

However, if the floodwater contains dirt and debris, we can use a self-priming trash pump to pass solids like broken branches, rocks, and dead plants. It ensures to extract excess water from the basement leaving only moisture.

Our technicians can use portable electric heaters to dry the moisture in your basement. The equipment speeds up the evaporation process, especially from wood materials. However, since direct heating of some materials can affect them negatively, we can use sandbags to contain the heat against the materials and contents we are drying.

Flood damage can lead to costly repairs if not handled on time. Talk to SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000 to help mitigate flood damage in your property. We can handle Any Size of Disaster.

What Additional Problems to Randolph Homes Come with Floodwater?

Floodwater contains contaminants from the soil, garbage, and everything else it touches before entering a home or business. These contaminants cause further issues requiring additional demolition, types of cleaning agents, and more:

  • Permanently stained drywall
  • Carpets cannot be restored for safe use
  • Increased pungent malodors throughout the home
  • Increased threat of mold growth

SERVPRO trains personnel to reduce or eliminate these flood damage effects in Randolph homes. Our response teams start by spraying all open water (puddles, water in basements, etc.) with an antibacterial agent to reduce the physical risk to our specialists and anyone else who might enter the home.

Specialists then bring in water pumps. They remove all water directly into the nearest sewer access point or, if one is not available, into a holding tank for delivery to a water treatment center. Next, they spray every now-exposed surface again and then remove all property too damaged for restoration. This allows other team members to concentrate on restoring the salvageable structural and personal property.

For thorough flood damage restoration, call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County today at (973) 895-5000.

Why is a Rapid Response Needed After a Water Incident in a Randolph Property?

a SERVPRO vehicle parked outside of a house Many times, carpets can be dried after a water damage event. Call SERVPRO to come out and evaluate the situation.

It is Necessary to Preserve Randolph Homes Post Water Damage

Even small amounts of water can cause damage in Randolph before it evaporates. SERVPRO understands that if a constant leak goes unnoticed, the repair costs can run into thousands of dollars. Common damage in homes includes:

  • Delamination or the separation of layers in carpets
  • Warping and cracking of wood flooring, floor trim, and paneling
  • Drywall splitting or crumbling
  • Paint, varnish, and other finishes bubbling or melting off furniture

Our response teams begin with pumps to remove standing water. If there is little visible water, then team specialists use smaller extractors to draw it out of carpets and from between floorboards.

After removing the water, specialists lift the carpet and dispose of the carpet pad. Then, they set-up an air mover to force warm, dry air over and under the carpet to preserve it and fans at the opposite end to draw out the damp air. Specialists use the same equipment to dry flooring and drywall without further damaging it.

Quick and thorough water removal is why SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County is the answer to your needs. Call us at (973) 895-5000 to get started.

Randolph has been an incorporated township for over 200 years. Its history goes farther than that, to include a role in the American Revolutionary War, a place for early Quaker settlers, and as the home for Native Americans for hundreds of years previously.

The Original People

The Lenni Lenape were long-time inhabitants of this area before the first Europeans arrived. The “Original People”, as it translates into English, were present for 10,000 years before the first pioneer landowners arrived. The Lenni Lenape for many generations mediated conflicts between other Native Tribes and Nations. Early Europeans noted these skills and the very gracious hospitality given to every visitor to the Lenni Lenape Nation.

Pioneers and Patriots

One of those early pioneers was Hartshorne Fitz-Randolph. He purchased 1,000 acres that, in 1753, would make up a significant portion of the township in the Mine Hill, that name used since New Jersey’s first iron mine opened here in 1713. The mine, and others that followed, built up the local economy and also served as both a source of raw materials and a supply depot for George Washington’s Army when it was encamped in Jockey Hollow for the winter of 1779-1780.

Fifty-three years later, the town would incorporate with Fitz-Randolph serving as the namesake. Portions of Mendham Township were included as part of its borders when the state legislature gave its approval on January 1st, 1806. Over the next 150 years, portions of Randolph were taken to create other townships such as Port Oram (now Wharton) in 1895, Mine Hill in 1923, and Victory Gardens in 1951.

Vacation Hot Spot

It was in the 1950s that Randolph became a popular vacation spot. The hotels and bungalows that quickly sprang up around our area were headlined by Frank Sinatra and the other top performers of that era. The Saltz Hotel also became a highly desired training facility and premiere boxing venue for Rocky Marciano, Max Baer, James J. Braddock, and Floyd Patterson.

Some of Randolph’s current celebrities include actors, athletes, coaches, dancers, and more:

  • Emily Chang, actress on The Vampire Diaries and The Bold Type
  • Antonio Cromartie, player for the New York Jets
  • Mike Groh, Wide Receiver Coach for the Indianapolis Colts
  • Jennifer Jones, dancer, actress, and the first African-American Radio City Music Hall Rockette
  • Chris Pennie, drummer for The Dillinger Escape Plan and Coheed and Cambria

Restoring Randolph After a Fire

Regardless if it is a historic hotel, a mining office, or a private residence, damage from fire needs to be cleaned or removed as quickly as possible. At SERVPRO, our response teams train extensively to perform the key tasks needed to return each structure to clean condition, safe for occupation again.

  • Immediate removal and disposal of physically damaged property
  • Establish containment where possible to prevent residues and debris from spreading to unaffected parts of the structure

  • There are multiple trailheads around the town with parking lots and some in city parks.
  • The trails not only connect several city parks, but they also connect neighborhoods and schools.

The Region Has a Rather Moderate Climate

For being on the east coast, Morris County overall has a pretty pleasant climate. The only problem is that it does get pretty cold in the wintertime. But, in the summer, the temperatures do not get unbearably too hot.

Between May and September, the temperature stays pleasantly between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. However, during December, January, and February, the lows range from the low 20s to the high teens. The region does experience quite a bit of precipitation as they receive between four and five inches on average per month with a yearly average of over 50 inches.

SERVPRO Can Help with Mold Damage and Restoration

With all of the precipitation the southwestern region of Morris County receives, likely, moisture can eventually find its way into your restaurant building, requiring you to call in a professional restoration company such as SERVPRO. Water can make its way into your eatery through a roof leak, old window or door seals, or because of elevated indoor humidity levels. Once H2O finds its way into your restaurant’s structure, it can cause several problems, including being the source of mold growth.

Fungi only need moisture, the ideal temperature between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, an organic food source, and 72 to 48 hours to grow and develop. The following items found inside your restaurant could become food sources for mold:

  • Wooden Items: The chairs and tables inside your dining room can become a source of mold growth if they retain water for more than 48 hours.
  • Drywall: If any of your walls contain sheetrock, then the paper backing could become a source for a fungus to develop.
  • Paper Products: The dry storage area inside your restaurant is usually the home to all of your paper products, including your paper towels and napkins. Most restaurants also store many of their foods and other products in boxes that could become a source for fungi.
  • Food Products: The food you are selling itself can become a source for mold if it gets too wet or elevated humidity levels. A fungus that starts growing on a food item could spread to other areas of your restaurant’s structure.
  • Dust and Other Debris: Any food crumbs on the floor of your kitchen or dining room, dust, and other loose debris can also cause mold to grow if moisture enters your building.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County can assist you 24/7 if you ever find that mold is a problem inside your business. Any time moisture enters your structure, call us at (973) 895-5000.

How Randolph Earned a Distinction as a Great Place to Live

In 2019, Randolph earned a distinction among the 50 best places to live in New Jersey from Niche.com. This accolade has been primarily due to the increase in population, which improves commerce, economy, and overall sense of community. In the past several decades, the greater Randolph area in Morris County has been steadily increasing, currently boasting nearly 26,000 residents. The natural scenery and overall calm have been attractive to some of history's most well-known figures, including Frank Sinatra and Rocky Marciano would seek Randolph as a respite from the city's sound and bustle.

The History of Randolph's Natural Appeal

History plays a significant role in the overall appeal of the Randolph area. From the acreage purchased by Hartshorne Fitz-Randolph that would become the township in 1753, the town's most profitable aspects already existed. In New Jersey, the first iron mine was located in Randolph and began its operations in 1713, providing raw materials to the existing soldiers inhabiting the colonies. While they were instrumental in securing the necessary metals for fashioning weapons or ammunition, Randolph also served as a supply depot for Washington and his troops stationed nearby during the American Revolution.

A blend of commercial development and unique rural appeal continued to keep the Greater Randolph area here in Morris County among the elite's premier vacation destinations throughout the years. In the 1950s, a series of bungalow and hotel developments would spring into existence, enticing names like Sinatra and Phil Silvers to use the area as a relaxing escape. Famous boxers like Max Baer and James Braddock used structures like the Saltz Hotel for training or broadcasted fights. In its own way, these exhibitions and getaways for some of the nation's most recognized people would put Randolph on the map for those that did not know it existed.

Historical Landmarks and Sites

Because history is so significant to Randolph's attractiveness and its surrounding areas, it is not surprising that so many of the structures and buildings within the town limits have been nationally recognized with historical significance. The Randolph Historical Society well preserves much of the town's artifacts and stories in the Museum of Old Randolph.

Even beyond colonial America and the structures that have existed since this time, much like the unfortunately recently demolished Liberty Tree, there are many other significant structures and areas of town that have been protected and recognized by the National Register of Historic Places. One such portion in the city is the oldest street in the municipality, Gristmill Road. A secondary district, Combs Hollow, was also recognized in the 1990s for its contribution to the early American industry.

Top Place to Live in New Jersey

Despite only being around 26,000 residents, Randolph has been included on multiple lists and groupings of desirable places to live in New Jersey. There are numerous reasons for these accolades. For one, the town is home to the well-respected County College of Morris. With more than 7000 registered students, the school has a considerable need for professionals in hundreds of positions. Students can take baccalaureate degree courses in specific niches on the CCM campus connected to Rutgers University.

There is a suburban feel and appearance of Randolph, especially being within a short drive from Newark, Manhattan, and Brooklyn. Those that can stand the commute have seen the more rural feel of South Morris County to be a welcomed alternative to the noise and alarming pace of the larger city areas. Also, the cost of living in our region of New Jersey is more reasonable than you are likely to find in more widely developed areas of the state or nearby New York.

Favorable Climate Conditions

With a humid, continental climate, Randolph is one of the areas in the northern portions of the United States that can experience a wide range of potential weather events. In most seasons, the weather is favorable and mild. While residents of the area can experience all four of the seasons throughout the year, extremes are often few and far between for those settling permanently to Randolph. While there are humid conditions to contend with in the dog days of summer, much of the year's average temperatures do not exceed 82 degrees or drop beneath 34 degrees.

With the expectancy of more than 51 inches of rainfall, Morris County continues to be a significant part of the country to grow crops, even on a large scale. There are definitive seasons that make specific fruits and plants unlikely to flourish. Many continue to take advantage of Randolph's lush rural region to provide food for their families and supply local farmers' markets with fresh crops, fruits, and other produce.

When Can Cleanup Begin After a Flood?

10/29/2020 (Permalink)

dog sitting in a SERVPRO truck with flames and green on it. What is better than a technician with 2 legs? One with 4! Let SERVPRO’s team help with your flood damage.

When your Randolph home falls victim to flooding, cleaning and restoration practices should begin as soon as possible.

Knowing what to do following a flood is not always clear after your Randolph home suffers damages. You prioritize the house's specific recovery needs, but DIY cleaning and recovery are not always possible or feasible for widespread flood loss effects. Many look to the experience of professional flood restoration companies like our SERVPRO team to help in these situations, as we have industry-leading equipment, continual training and education, and communication skills to decipher your priorities in restoration.

Cleaning and flood removal for Randolph homes must happen as soon as possible, meaning that you should not hesitate to contact both your insurance company and restoration professionals like our technicians. As a comprehensive solution for restoring natural disaster damage to your residence, we have both experienced technicians accredited from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and licensed general contractors to prevent specific conditions from worsening, including:

  • Structural Damage: Through practices like controlled demolition and inspections, we can determine the extent of present structural concerns and prevent these conditions from worsening and leading to collapses.
  • Contaminants: Contamination is always a concern with natural flooding, as the presence of bacterial and viral pathogens cannot be ruled out. The fewer materials and contents that become exposed to moving floodwater, the less that must get discarded and later replaced.
  • Ruined Contents: Your personal belongings left in harm's way can become irreparably harmed, or due to contamination exposure, beyond restoration.
  • Odors: Standing water and saturated materials, combined with the various substances, chemicals, and organic matter brought in with flooding, can create a pungent odor that requires neutralization.

Can Extraction Start Right Away?

Extraction should begin as soon as possible because standing water continues to be a severe threat to the property, even when contaminants are not a concern. Because natural flooding also embodies the risks of bacteria and viral pathogens, exposure to materials often means discarding these structural elements. Preventing saturation beyond surface materials becomes a critical effort that requires multiple extraction tools based on the severity of the situation, its location, and what solids/debris might be present in the standing water. Once surface water is mostly removed, muck-out cleaning can begin.

What Is Muck Out?

After the immediate effects of natural flooding, cleaning up often means encountering a considerable volume of organic matter and debris on the floors, walls, and other exposed surfaces. Muck-out is one of the preliminary cleaning actions taken to remove this buildup while simultaneously reducing the concentrations of bacteria, contaminants, and odors. Common substances and debris include:

  • Dirt
  • Mud
  • Debris
  • Silt
  • Foliage

Can Some Surfaces Get Cleaned Instead of Removed?

Contamination is a considerable concern when natural flooding occurs. Choosing what materials can stay installed and which must get discarded is a very concise need. Often, porous materials that become directly exposed to standing floodwater or migrating loss effects must get discarded and later replaced. With the appropriate management of the pooling water and the efficient removal of surface materials like drywall and certain flooring types, wood framing and subflooring often only requires cleaning and antimicrobial treatments. Particular flooring and wall types that are low-porosity can also typically get cleaned, including:

  • Concrete
  • Tile
  • Brick/Block

If Demolition is Required, When Does This Occur?

Because we have a roster of qualified and licensed general contractors, we can offer controlled demolition solutions as the needs get identified. During the job scoping phase, our project manager can indicate where controlled demolition might be necessary and potential problem areas that could worsen without attention. Early mitigation stages provide the appropriate timeline to safely remove these impacted materials and contents before further deterioration.

Can Odors Get Removed?

Neutralizing and removing odors after a flood disaster requires several tools and strategies. We can begin with reducing the severity of these conditions through products like deodorizing granules and odor counteractant beads that absorb these odors and replace them with a pleasant scent. Deodorization occurs as one of the final cleaning steps for a property and often involves versatile tools like thermal foggers and ozone machines.

Cleaning and removing the effects of flooding in your home is not a situation that homeowners are often equipped to handle independently. With the experience of our professionals and the current inventory of leading tools for extraction and cleaning at our disposal, SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County can help you to make it "Like it never even happened." How Do Fire Restoration Services Help Homeowners?

10/24/2020 (Permalink)

Firefighters fighting a fire in a home. A fire in your home brings multiple after-effects once the fire is put out. Let SERVPRO help your Mendham home.

SERVPRO Fire Damage Technicians Reduce Losses, Claim Expense, and Disruption for Mendham Homeowners After a Property Fire.

What are the most urgent things to do after a fire?

A loss site in your Mendham home requires immediate action. After evacuating the property, you should contact the fire service and your insurer. Arranging for a restoration service from the local area can help to reduce harm to your property. Our priority at your property is to secure it and create a safe workspace. We can protect the property by boarding up broken windows or doors, supplying or returning power for equipment, checking the structure's sound, and providing lighting for the affected area. Fire loss sites need specialist subcontractors while cleaning, drying, and deodorization by fire technicians. Providing the necessary tools and equipment to enter the loss site and mitigate early can make a massive difference to a restoration project's success.

Why is water mitigation significant for fire restoration?

Rescuing a property from fire damage in Mendham frequently involves some water mitigation experience and expertise. Firefighters mitigate losses by using water to extinguish combusting materials and regain control of the property. While these steps are necessary, they can inadvertently cause further harm to contents and building materials; especially when extensive smoke soiling or soots are involved. Failure to deal with water exposure effectively increases the chances of smoke soil bonding and odor and secondary harms such as mold growth. SERVPRO has expertise in both fire and water restoration.

What kinds of water mitigation are involved in a fire loss site?

  • If sprinklers activate as a result of fire, removing textiles, documents, books, and porous items to a clean room for drying is essential.
  • Drying floors and replacing wet carpets or pads, blocking furniture and propping up cushions for even drying
  • Applying a temperature of 72 degrees or higher and set up air movers and dehumidifiers

Are additional services, like drying, recorded during fire restoration?

Our crew chiefs can inventory and document the full restoration process in your home. Your initial notification of loss is the first record of fire loss. As the work process occurs, any action is digitally stored, which can help improve restoration by allowing production technicians and crew chiefs to revisit specific areas and update positive or negative outcomes. A document like this is crucial to maintaining a coordinated effort for returning your property to its preloss condition. An additional benefit of inventorying throughout the service is that details can be reviewed by technicians, an insurance adjuster, and the homeowner effortlessly. Many of these details can be used to produce your estimate and final claims report.

What are the forms required for fire restoration initially?

  • Customer information form- fire damage. This form provides details of your property address and a brief description of damages.
  • Notice of Loss is essential to begin the restoration process because it allows us to plan based on the extent of harm. This form is vital to securing the correct equipment and the right number of production technicians for the loss site.
  • Fire Damage initial inspection report. A crew chief completes this on-site while inspecting the property. Any unique requirements are recorded here, and this can form a basis for a restoration estimate.

Is it safe to remain in a home with fire damages?

We use several strategies to make sure your home is safe if you are to remain in the property during restoration. Some of these can be to ensure you are as comfortable as possible. SERVPRO crew chiefs encourage homeowners to point out essential clothing to dry-clean and return to you as quickly as possible. Equally, actual used rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens are restored first to help you resume your everyday life with minimum disruption. Deodorization and air-filtration can help bring malodors under control to provide extra comfort. Our production technicians can guide you on what is safe to use and what areas to avoid in ongoing communications to reduce the disruption associated with fire losses.

What do technicians do when restoring fire losses during the winter months?

  • Restoring heat to the property using furnaces, boiler repair, or generators to prevent pipes from freezing. If it is not possible to restore power, we can shut off the ability to reduce the chances of burst mains and water intrusion.
  • Filling toilets and drainage sites with antifreeze to reduce the likelihood of blockages or pressure-related backups
  • Inspecting appliances for safety as a priority and, where possible, removing contaminated foods from the area.

Our services are designed to ease the emotional burden and disruption of a house fire. Contact SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (862) 278-8756.

Why is it so Tough to Remove Mold Colonies from the Home?

10/19/2020 (Permalink)

Mold growing on back of plastic chair Mold colonies can quickly overtake an area. Call SERVPRO for remediation.

Mold Damage can Permeate Contents and Building Materials in your Randolph Home. SERVPRO has the Expertise and Equipment to Remediate Mold in Residential Properties

Can aggressively scrubbing mold damage materials?

Agitation is a technique that most Randolph residents use to remove soils, spots, or stains. This technique can be equally effective at dealing with out of control mold growth. However, since mold can often infest a material below the surface level, it can be tough to remove molds effectively without harming the fabric. SERVPRO technicians remediate mold using a wide range of products that can agitate and remove colonies. This remediation method can be time-consuming, so it is essential to decide which materials are salvageable before cleaning and restoring.

How do you identify salvageable and non-salvageable materials?

  • Is the material expensive and tough or time-consuming to replace
  • Have molds infested below the surface of the material
  • Is the material porous or non-porous (porous materials are generally non-salvageable)

Is there a way to remove mold without damaging the material?

When remediating mold damage in your Randolph home, technicians must identify expensive materials or time-consuming materials to remove and replace. Semi-porous materials, like wood, are generally good targets for remediation. SERVPRO can use soda blasting equipment to remove molds entirely across a large surface area. Since soda particles are less aggressive than sand, there is less chance of causing permanent damage to the material surface. In some cases, soda-blasting may remove the lacquer or finish of a surface, which can be refinished later. Our technicians can help make essential decisions regarding the control and remediation of molds in your property.

Is agitative cleaning useful for mold?

  • Steel wool or dry sponges
  • Scouring pads for surfaces that may be sensitive
  • Rotary machines fitted with sand or steel wool scrubbers

Careful assessment and removal of microbial growth in your home are essential to an efficient remediation project. Contact SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000.

What Can Happen If My Fiberglass Insulation Gets Wet After a Storm In My Randolph Home?

10/16/2020 (Permalink)

Mold and water spots on an attic wall. Storm damage to your insulation can be problematic, so let SERVPRO take the lead.

For Flood Removal After Building Materials Inside Your Randolph Home Get Wet, Call SERVPRO

After a storm strikes the Randolph area, moisture can find its way into your house once the water starts getting deep outside. H2O can enter your home from a leaky roof or rise from the ground. Once moisture enters your dwelling, it will first build up on your floor, and then it can start soaking into your wall cavities.

Does my insulation get ruined if it gets wet?

During flood removal in Randolph, our SERVPRO technicians know that the R-value of some types of insulation can be decreased if your fiberglass insulation inside your walls gets wet. Fiberglass insulation is made from glass, and it can be made into batts, blankets, or loose-fill. This type of insulation is commonly found in residential buildings inside walls, ceilings, and sometimes underneath floors. Most batts of fiberglass insulation is paper-backed meaning that one side of the insulation has paper attached to the fiberglass.

Can my fiberglass insulation be restored after it gets wet?

According to industry standards, fiberglass insulation and its paper backing can be dried out and restored if it gets wet, and the source is category one or clean water. However, moisture coming into your home after a storm is either considered a category two or three situation since there is a chance the water is contaminated by harmful fungi, bacteria, viruses, or parasites coming in from the outdoors. Therefore, when dealing with "grey" or "black" water, our SERVPRO crew can remove or replace your insulation if it gets wet.

How can you dry out my wall cavity after the insulation gets removed?

  • Flood Cuts: We can cut your drywall a foot or two above your floor and use air movers and dehumidifiers to dry out your wall cavities.
  • Injection Drying Systems: We can use injection driers that push air into your wall cavities through holes that are drilled into your drywall.

If you ever think that moisture made its way inside your walls after a storm, call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000 24 hours a day.

What Information Is Good To Have When Planning To Restore Fire-Damaged Upholstery?

SERVPRO Helps Whenever Unique Fire Damage Restoration Needs Arise in Randolph Properties

As a fire ravages your property, upholstery items are among the most vulnerable valuables likely to sustain significant damages. If the damages are salvageable, you need to know the right steps to take to restore the items to their preloss state. SERVPRO offers professional restoration of damaged upholstery in Randolph homes.

What ruins upholstery items during home fires?

Fire damage restoration in Randolph properties can run smoother when you understand some crucial details, such as how various damages develop. Over the years, our SERVPRO technicians have identified some common sources of damages in upholstery items, including:

  • Exposure of items to heat or flames
  • Splashing of water or firefighting chemicals on the items
  • Soot and other residues accumulating on item surfaces
  • Dyes running leading to stains

Damage from heat or flames is more likely to be permanent since it changes the physical attributes of the affected material. For instance, deep charring, melting, shrinking, or dripping are some of the irreversible changes that can happen when extreme heat interacts with upholstery materials.

Other problems such as soot deposit, dyes running and interaction with firefighting chemicals may be reversed depending on the extent of damage, or the type of response mounted. Our SERVPRO technicians can help with most of the issues since they receive advanced training and IICRC certification in upholstery and fabric cleaning.

How easy is it to restore salvageable upholstery items to preloss state?

Restoration may involve cleaning, resurfacing, or other processes. If the only issue you identify is soiling, cleaning can help restore them to the preloss state. The main factors that influence the steps you need to take include:

  • The level of soiling
  • Kind of fiber that makes up the fabric
  • Type of fabric weave

As the smoke spreads around a property, soot and other residues accumulate on the surfaces of upholstery items. Some of the residues also penetrate beyond the surface of the material, thus increasing the level of soiling. Soils can also vary in physical traits and may be classified as dry, wet, or even oily, depending on the properties they exhibit.

What determines the level of soiling on upholstery items after a fire?

  • Types of materials the fire burns
  • The intensity of the fire
  • The procedures used to quell the fire

Some of the byproducts of a fire, including soot and smoke, are generated by incomplete combustion of materials. Therefore, fires that burn less intensely are likely to leave your items with heavier soiling. Such fires are also responsible for wet smoke, complicating the soiling further.

Soiling can also depend on the type of materials affected by the fire. Natural materials like wood burn easily, leaving minimal residues. Such materials also produce dry smoke that settles on surfaces, which, unlike wet smoke, is easier to remove using mechanical procedures such as wiping or vacuuming the affected surface.

How does the type of fabric weave affect the cleaning process?

There are several categories of woven fabrics used in upholstery items, including:

  • Basket weave
  • Plain weave
  • Satin weave
  • Twill weave
  • Pile weave

Our SERVPRO technicians identify the type of weave before starting cleaning procedures. Some categories, such as plain, twill, and basket weaves, can withstand aggressive cleaning procedures during restoration without sustaining damages. A satin weave, on the other hand, has low abrasion resistance and strength, thus requiring gentler cleaning approaches.

Another issue with fabrics is the changes that cleaning procedures might introduce. Some fabrics are prone to shrinking, cellulose browning and color bleeding, among other issues. Such problems can worsen the damage from the fire or create new problems.

How does SERVPRO overcome the challenges when cleaning upholstery?

Our technicians are highly trained in handling upholstery items. One area covered by such training is proper testing of the materials we intend to restore. Performing tests on small patches of the material before we embark on cleaning, or other restorative steps, helps us confirm whether issues such as dyes bleeding, shrinking, or browning are likely to occur.

We have specialized upholstery-cleaning machines that help fine-tune the cleaning process by regulating the application of cleaning agents, the amount of heat used and ensure thorough rinsing. We also regulate the drying process to prevent problems that can develop due to extended exposure to moisture. Placing the items in a well-ventilated area or using air movers to improve the drying process eliminates problems like browning.

Saving your precious upholstery items after a fire has several advantages. SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County can help you in many ways to achieve this objective. Call us at (973) 895-5000. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

8/13/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO truck in drveway of home Our team is always ready to go to handle your water loss event.

Only a Water Restoration Technician has all the Tools Necessary to Extract Water from your Randolph Home

Randolph homeowners may think of a water leak only in terms of the inconvenience it causes, ignoring the impact of standing water. Every minute we allow water to sit after it leaks, we let it damage our flooring, cabinets, and walls. Calling a water restoration technician for expert advice is the first step in protecting your home and your family's health.

In Randolph, water mitigation services are our specialty at SERVPRO. Our technicians focus not only on removing water and drying your home; we also mitigate conditions favorable to the growth of bacteria and repair your home so you can enjoy it once again. Because time is important when a leak springs, our technicians are available around the clock to remove water and any ensuing cleanup.

How damaging can a leak be?

When our sink or bathtub leaks, it may appear insignificant. Many of us homeowners think we can mop the excess water and leave it at that, however, if water seeps into your drywall. Underneath a cabinet or into your floors, you could face complex issues in the future. It is not uncommon for our SERVPRO team to receive a call due to a musty smell or ceiling discoloration. Both can be the result of an old water leak. Our technicians specialize in structural issues and odor control, and we can evaluate the damage once we arrive at your home.

You can avoid future problems by reaching out to our SERVPRO crew as soon as the water loss incident happens. With time on our side, we can use one or several of the following techniques to dry your home-

  • Injectidry technology which lets us dry wall cavities and behind cabinets
  • Drying mats to protect your flooring from delaminating or buckling
  • Wand extractors to dry even the hard-to-reach corners of your home

Please do not sell short the impact of a leak, however small it is. Call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000 as soon as you can. We work hard to mitigate your loss of time and money and leave your home, "Like it never even happened."

What is the Difference Between Getting Water Cleanup Done By My Regular Randolph Janitorial Crew and a Professional Restoration Service?

7/24/2020 (Permalink)

A large room with windows with water on the floor, and falling into a trashcan. SERVPRO has what your commercial water damage needs in Randolph, call us today.

SERVPRO Has The Training and Experienced Skills You Need For Your Randolph Water Damage.

While your regular janitorial service might do a great job keeping your property clean, they may not have the professional equipment needed to successfully locate and extract the water wherever it migrated within the structure. When a commercial water loss happens in your Randolph retail business, most property owners want four main things to occur:

  • Fast cleanup
  • Save as much stock as possible
  • No residual odors left behind
  • Lessen the time needed to close

Do I Have to Wait Until the Next Business Day to Start Commercial Water Damage Cleanup?

As soon as a commercial water damage situation gets discovered in your Randolph property, it is time to schedule SERVPRO to begin the cleanup. The certified technicians arrive within hours of your initial call and are available 365 days a year around the clock, because the longer an elevated moisture situation remains on the premises, the more potential for a loss occurs.

Core Differences Between a Great Janitorial Cleanup and Great Restoration Services

When you have water damage affecting your commercial property, bringing in a professional restoration company is crucial because your regular cleaning service does not possess the types of devices and equipment necessary for a successful outcome from water loss such as:

  • Various types of moisture detection equipment for use on different surface types
  • Professional water removal units to extract even embedded moisture
  • Drying equipment for different areas of the property
  • Odor control methods that extend beyond scent-covering sprays
  • Proactive mold treatments

After the water removal phase of cleanup, the drying phase of mitigation in your store needs to occur rapidly. SERVPRO technicians scope the property and identify items that may get affected by elevated interior humidity, such as computer equipment, documents, and paperwork and stock stored on-site. In cases where the situation demands removal of the articles to another area, the techs make a note of the precise location of every piece that gets moved, so when the restoration services complete, there is little to no disruption to regular business operations when you are open again for business.

The Right Type of Drying Equipment Gets the Job Done Faster

The crew that does regular cleanup for your business may have access to a large number of fans, but these only work to dry the top surfaces. SERVPRO technicians have specific types of drying devices, depending on the area within the commercial property that requires it. In cases where baseboards get removed, but the walls remain intact, the Injecti-Dry system is an ideal choice as it forces warm, dry air into small spaces. When flooring or subfloor gets affected by water loss, drying mats assist in the removal of moisture. The most common equipment used by the techs is their fleet of air movers. This type of machinery is not a fan; it blows air at a high velocity and causes a reaction that forces embedded moisture to the surface where dehumidification units capture and port it away. These professional-grade devices for drying a structure and contents is one of the biggest reasons for outsourcing the cleanup of your property.

Water has its own musty odor calling-card that gets left behind. Treating with cover-up treatments is not a solution. The techs bring state of the art treatments such as thermal fogging to ensure that any remaining residual odors get eradicated and not merely covered up.

Clear Communication During and After the Process

A water loss event that halts operations can feel overwhelming. One thing you do not want to have to deal with is wondering what exactly happened during the cleanup of your building. SERVPRO technicians document and communicate with both property owners and adjusters to ensure nothing gets disposed of or moved without approval, and this further ensures that actions taken during the restoration process are within the scope of coverage. Hence, there are no surprise charges that occur.

How Fast Can Repairs Happen After Water Loss Cleanup?

It is not unusual for sheetrock or flooring to have damage from a water loss. While SERVPRO techs have a vast array of extraction and drying equipment and cleaning solutions, sometimes building materials cannot get restored, and a certain amount of controlled demolition to remove these loss items is a standard part of the cleanup process. Once the techs finish the restoration services, they can move directly into performing any needed repairs or even large-scale reconstruction as they hold a general contractor license #13VH06013000.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000 for fast and reliable commercial water damage cleanup and restoration. The certified techs are available 24/7 to make the loss to your property "Like it never even happened."

Can I Put Off Water Damage Repair at My Randolph House Until I Research How to Manage without Help?

Water Damage Repair Can Be Complicated in Randolph, Which Is Why SERVPRO's Comprehensive Expertise is So Beneficial

Sometimes water damage sneaks up on you, a tiny leak slowly saturating the subfloor and walls beneath and surrounding your Randoph bathroom. Cracks in caulking plus daily showers and tub splashing provide the pathway and the moisture. Once you notice the staining on the ceiling and the peeling paint weeks or months could have passed. Admittedly a bit more time before fixing the problems cannot matter, right?

Why Is an Immediate Response Recommended When Water Damage Is Suspected?

You might not have the time you think to respond when you finally notice the need for long term water damage repair in Randolph. Once the water has migrated through cracks in grout or caulk, into wood subfloors and framing, and finally stains the ceiling below, several concerning things already have happened:

  • Wooden supports, including the bathroom subfloor, have swelled, distorted, and weakened
  • Liquid water has collected above the ceiling or between walls and might cause a collapse
  • Ceiling tile or the drywall has deteriorated and might break, crumble, or fall at any time
  • Metal fasteners have rusted and lost strength
  • Mold growth might have begun deep inside cavities

What Can Experts Do That I Cannot?

Trained and experienced project managers and technicians are our most valuable resource, why SERVPRO can complete an accurate assessment and plan for a successful outcome every time. Although we treat each water damage repair inquiry individually, we likely have seen similar problems and use that familiarity and industry best practices to craft a plan that swiftly makes it "Like it never even happened." A do-it-yourself response to long-term, cumulative damage can start optimistically and grind to a halt as one complication after another stymies the homeowner.

Offering the full spectrum of water damage repair, from assessment to reconstruction, is why SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County stands out among homeowners' solutions facing a loss. Call us at (973) 895-5000 for the assistance needed now.

Why Is Tearing Down Part of My Property Suggested When I Expected Professionals to Fix Flood Damage in My Randolph Home?

SERVPRO Tech. talking to home owner After your home suffers flood damage, you need a team of professionals to assist you with cleanup. Call SERVPRO right away! We are always available.

SERVPRO Uses Research-Based, Proven Strategies to Remove All the Water and Normalize Moisture Levels After Flood Damage In Randolph

After a severe storm passes, your Randolph home is awash in flood water. Overland flooding pushes muck, debris, and sewage and chemical contaminated fluids into your first and lower levels. Roof, window, or siding damage can allow water to pour inside and cascade down walls or stairs to collect in building cavities or on the lowest floors. You need help getting the silt and the water out of your home, but some of the methods a professional restoration company uses to achieve this goal might surprise you.

What Creates the Need for Controlled Demolition?

Water is the agent of disaster when flood damage strikes your Randolph residence. It acts as blunt force, driving the muddy onslaught through ground-level windows and doors. Its pressure can knock walls over and push contents into disarray. Once it settles inside, the flood water seeks cracks and crevices, infiltrating porous materials and invading building cavities. It cannot be left to drain or dry out over days or weeks as corrodes building materials. If moisture encounters molds spores, chances are good that microbial growth and damage follows.

What is Controlled Demolition, and How Can It Help with Flood Damage Recovery?

SERVPRO technicians begin with extraction of visible water, moving on to locate trapped fluid using tools and techniques mastered during the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) training. Once we pinpoint the problem, we use the following to release water and open the wet space for applied structural drying:

  • Flood cuts -- sawed into drywall several inches above the floodline, permitting extraction of water and direction of moving, warm air to dry
  • Holes drilled under the baseboard or through mortar joints -- allowing insertion of hoses for negative air pressure for suction and positive air pressure for drying

Who Rebuilds the Demolition?

Our construction division takes on the repair and rebuilding. Licensed workers  make the limited demolition ready for repainting or refinishing, “Like it never even happened.”

Rely on the experts at SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County to guide you out of the chaos of flood damage. Call us at (973) 895-5000 to set the restoration into motion.

What Can Simplify Fire Restoration In My Randolph Home?

6/21/2020 (Permalink)

damaged building roof from burning fire Contact the professionals immediately when facing fire damage in your home. Team SERVPRO will assess and remediate.

SERVPRO Helps Organize the Restoration Process Guaranteeing Better or Faster Outcomes

After a fire affects your home, restoration is necessary to make it safe or comfortable for occupation. Based on the severity of the fire, the restoration process in your Randolph home can be challenging or take time to complete. Finding ways to simplify the exercise is, therefore, essential. Alternatively, you can also involve a team of professionals such as SERVPRO to help with the restoration.

What is unique about fire restoration done by professionals in Randolph?

Although professionals rely on sophisticated fire restoration methods in Randolph, there are many simple things they do that help complete the process conveniently. They include:

  • Deeper understanding and choice of cleaning products
  • Appropriate use of cleaning methods
  • Preventing secondary problems
  • Testing before starting the restoration

A significant chunk of the restoration work in Randolph, after a fire incident, involves cleaning surfaces and contents to remove soot, tar, and other smoke residues. Apart from covering vast areas of your property, the soils may adhere to some materials making the removal process challenging. One approach that simplifies cleanup is using products that counter the physical traits of the soil. Our SERVPRO technicians rely on concepts such as "like dissolves like" to choose the right cleaning product.

"Like dissolves like," how does that help?

The soils left on surfaces and materials may have different shades of color ranging from yellow, grey, brown, or black. However, the differences go beyond the visual representation because the soils can be:

  • Hydrophilic
  • Hydrophobic
  • Lipophilic
  • Lipophobic

Hydrophilic residues readily dissolve in water, while lipophilic ones require oil-based cleaning products. Hydrophobic and lipophobic soils do not dissolve in water or oil-based cleaning products, respectively. Our SERVPRO technicians perform some tests at the loss area, establishing the qualities of the soils that we need to remove, thus ensuring the cleaning products we pick work faster.

Which tests help ease the restoration of fire-damaged valuables?

Tests that help differentiate residue types and identify the physical traits of the affected materials are necessary to establish whether restoration is possible as well as the best approaches to execute such renovation. Tests can vary from something as easy as running a cleaning sponge along wall surfaces to establish residue spread patterns, to other sophisticated tests that established the type of material or level of deterioration. When restoring upholstery items and carpet, such tests are crucial because apart from helping ease the restoration process, they also prevent the problem from worsening. Some typical tests include:

  • Fiber type test
  • Colorfastness test
  • Level of soiling test
  • Stain resistance test

Does the choice of a cleaning method interfere with the restoration process?

Even after identifying the soils, and the physical traits of the materials they affect, choosing the wrong cleaning procedure can lead to challenges. One aspect of restorative cleaning is the agitation of soiled surfaces or materials. Several methods of agitation can help remove soils, including the use of wiping cloths, brushes, air pressure, and water pressure.  For loose soils on porous materials, our technicians use air pressure agitation, such as contact vacuuming, which ensures that the residues do not penetrate deeper into the material. For items that require immersion, we can use sophisticated forms of agitation such as ultrasonic cleaning, which utilizes sound waves to create and implode millions of bubbles, which remove soils conveniently.

Sometimes the processes meant to restore affected materials can cause additional damages or even ruin the item permanently. When cleaning carpets or upholstery, there is a possibility of water stains forming due to over-wetting or drying the materials slowly.  To control stains from over-wetting, our technicians use peroxide water stain removers to reverse the damage. Slow drying is rarely a problem since we manage the drying process by setting up air movers and dehumidifiers close to the wet items to expedite drying.

Can decluttering help improve the restoration process?

In most cases, properties are disorganized or full of clutter after fire damage, which can delay the restoration processes. Removing some materials helps create room to maneuver. Our SERVPRO technicians can help move your contents to an offsite facility for storage or specialized cleaning, which helps declutter the loss site and safeguard your valuables.

We use different approaches to make such move-outs convenient, including packing items by room and separating wet and dry items. Such precautions also help improve the outcome of the restoration process. For instance, we can prevent damage transfer by separating wet and dry items. Packing items from the same areas also helps in locating items with similar damage when cleaning up or performing other restoration processes.

How Can I Protect My Randolph Business from Potential Water Leaks?

6/3/2020 (Permalink)

Exposed pipes in a ceiling. Water damage to your Randolph business can be hard to deal with, let SERVPRO assist you today.

As a Randolph Business Owner, There are Several Things You Can Do to Prevent Water Leaks.

Owning a business in Randolph comes with its particular concerns and stresses.  One of the biggest of these is the ever-present threat of water leaks that could threaten your valuable inventory and continuing operations.  Luckily, there are some ways to effectively guard against this potentially catastrophic danger.  These preventative measures are relatively simple ways of avoiding water-related damage and the need for water removal services.

What are Some Causes of Commercial Water Leaks?

Commercial water removal services in Randolph, like SERVPRO, have encountered leaks arising from numerous different sources.  These sources have ranged from the obvious to the hidden, and they include defective pipes, structural problems, malfunctioning commercial appliances, and compromised containers.  Some specific examples of where water leaks often originate are:

  • Water pipes that have burst because of freezing temperatures
  • Roof leaks resulting from snow accumulations, excessive rainfalls, and normal long-term wear and tear
  • Clogged roof drainage systems that fail to draw water away from your commercial structure
  • Appliances that are malfunctioning like a hotel’s washing machines or a restaurant’s dishwashers
  • Deteriorated water tanks and containers

Fortunately, many of these problems can be prevented merely through routine inspections and proper maintenance.

What are Some Ways I Can Prevent Destructive Water Issues at My Commercial Site?

There are several preventative measures SERVPRO suggests business owners take to lower their risk of water damage.  The following actions significantly reduce your chances of developing a water leak:

  • Periodically having your pipes inspected and repaired by a service like SERVPRO
  • Leaving your faucets on slightly when temperatures drop below freezing
  • Quickly having large snow accumulations removed from your roof and routinely having it evaluated for leaks
  • Ensuring that your roof drainage systems are in good working order

While these precautionary steps can often save you from needing a water extraction, there are times when it is impossible to avoid a water-related catastrophe.

Whenever water leaks and related issues impact your commercial site, call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000 for assistance.

How Challenging Is It To Complete Restoration After Flood Damage Affects My Randolph Home?

5/24/2020 (Permalink)

an area of the house with stairs that is flooded If not taken care of properly, water damage can affect your home for much longer than you think. Contact SERVPRO right away.

The Training and Experience SERVPRO Crews Have Helps in Identifying and Dealing with Challenging Aspects of Flood Damage

Flooding incidents affect Randolph properties in many ways, including soiling and contaminating them. The sudden moisture influx from flooding also affects a variety of materials in the house ranging from fabrics, wood, and even composites. Some damages to materials are readily discernible, while others may remain hidden until you scrutinize an area thoroughly or extreme deterioration finally reveals the problem.

How do I know which materials are damaged?

Identifying the materials that flood damage affects at your Randolph home is an essential part of planning the restoration process. In addition to noting which items or materials are damaged, identifying the level of deterioration matters since it is what determines whether repairs can be done successfully or replacements are necessary. When you know the different ways flooding affects materials, it is easier to identify the damaged ones. The typical ways materials end up damaged include:

  • Exposure to contamination
  • Over saturation of materials
  • Heavy soiling

The level of damage in Randolph caused by contamination depends on the physical traits of the affected material. Any porous materials affected by the groundwater are damaged beyond repair because even deep cleaning leaves some traces of the contaminants. The most common porous materials affected during flooding include:

  • Floor materials such as carpets and pad
  • Wall materials such as drywall and insulation
  • Content fittings such as foam, sponge or cardboard

Absorption of significant amounts of water can change materials physically, compromise bonds holding materials together, or cause disintegration in other ways. For instance, wood swells, warps, buckles, or cups, depending on where it is installed. For carpets, the fibers separate from the backing, while drywall crumbles under the slightest pressure. Such problems are readily discernible so you can tell which materials are damaged.

How do I deal with the damaged materials?

You have various options when dealing with materials damaged during flooding incidents. For the non-porous and semi-porous materials, cleaning can help restore heavily soiled materials while drying helps reverse the effects of moisture.  For effective cleaning, the use of chemicals to loosen or breakdown soils and disinfectants and other antimicrobial agents is necessary. Agitation and other physical cleaning actions are also necessary. For materials or contents damaged extensively, removal is the only solution. Our SERVPRO technicians also take other steps to safeguard the items, tools, and areas we clean, including:

  • Separating the work area where necessary to prevent the spread of contaminants
  • Creating a decontamination area by setting up a 6-mil plastic sheet on the floor, ceiling and continuous wall-wrap
  • Setting up a contents cleaning area in an uncontaminated section of the property
  • Setting a load out area next to the work area where we hold bagged waste awaiting removal to the disposal site.

Are there unexpected challenges that develop when resolving flood damage?

Proper planning and use of the correct equipment helps the process of restoring flood-damaged properties run smoothly. However, unexpected issues can arise at any point during the restoration. For instance, failure to observe safety precautions when using chemical products to clean, disinfect, or deodorize the property can lead to irritation or even injury. Our SERVPRO technicians follow manufacturer directions when mixing or applying such products. We also use protective equipment, including respirators, and splash goggles for safety.

Removal of moisture introduced by the floodwaters or cleaning processes is essential to restore the property to its preloss state. However, this is easier said than done. One unforeseen issue that can halt the drying process is moisture equilibrium, which happens when the moisture in a material is at par with the condition of the surrounding air. With this condition, moisture does not move from the wet materials to the air.  Our crews increase the heat and air movements to break the equilibrium. We use air movers to boost air movements and portable heaters to increase temperature. Exhausting warm air from dehumidifiers back into the room also helps raise the temperature.

Stubborn odors can also develop in your property after a flooding incident. Odors can be real or imagined since the sight of your property heavily soiled can have a psychological effect that gives you the impression that there is a smell. Some odors might also emanate from cleaning agents, finishing products applied on surfaces, or the wetness. Such odors disappear naturally over time. Our SERVPRO technicians help remove the odors, or in case of temporary or imagined odors, we use masking agents that produce a sweet scent.

A flood-damaged property can present many challenges that delay restoration. Call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000 to manage any incident, "Like it never even happened."

How Can I Get Rid of Smoke Odors Inside My Home after a Fire?

5/12/2020 (Permalink)

plug on fire in outlet Don't let a fire put you out of your home in Randolph. The odor can be eliminated by SERVPRO and their specialized techniques.

SERVPRO Can Use a Variety of Specialized Tools and Techniques to Deodorize your House in Randolph

When an inferno ignites inside your Randolph structure, partially combusted particles in the form of smoke get released into the air. The smoke can then flow through the entire building and cause several different problems. Smoke can leave behind soot residues, and it can penetrate deeply into porous materials and cause burnt odors to exist.

What are the initial steps you take when deodorizing my house after a fire?

The first step our SERVPRO technicians always take when starting fire damage restoration in Randolph is to secure the structure and make sure that it is safe for our workers and your house's occupants. Next, we can remove all burnt materials and any debris leftover from the blaze. Then, we can clean all of the soot residues off of any of your surfaces that got affected.

What steps do you take if foul odors still exist after you clean all soot residues?

• Pressure Sprayers- We can use a pump or an electric spray to spray deodorants in affected areas.
• Ventilation Equipment- We can set up large box fans that can push air out to ventilate areas where foul smells exist.
• Air Scrubbers- These machines work well to clean the air by sucking it past a high-efficiency particulate (HEPA) filter that can trap small malodor particles.
• Ozone Generator- Ozone generation works well to oxidize and neutralize malodor particles.
• Photocatalytic Oxidizer- Photocatalytic lamps shine ultraviolet (UV) rays on a titanium dioxide surface to produce hydroxyl radicals that oxidize and break down malodor particles.
• ULV Foggers- Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) foggers break down water-based deodorants into a mist that can penetrate items similarly to the way smoke does.
• Thermal Foggers- Thermal foggers use mainly oil-based deodorants, and the machine breaks them down even smaller than a ULV fogger does.

If you notice burnt aromas after you suffer from even a small fire in your home in Mendham Boro or Roxbury, call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000.

  • Wand extractor- this handheld device extends our reach into tucked-away corners and hard to reach places.
  • Injecti-dry technology- by drilling tiny holes in your baseboards, we can inject warm air into your walls and encourage water evaporation.
  • Wet-dry vacuum- it can help us dry carpets and other surfaces.

Pumps of varying capacities are also useful when extracting water from your home. The most important thing is to call a professional crew and to avoid leaving water evaporation to chance. The longer water stands in your home, the more damage it causes.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County is your ally during your home emergency. Call us at (973) 895-5000 and let us work with you to leave your home, "Like it never even happened."

How Do I Remove Water From My Home In Randolph?

4/23/2020 (Permalink)

Water inside home, man on phone. No matter when you make the call, we have technicians who can assist you.

Call SERVPRO to Bring In a Team of Professional Water Removal Technicians

Even a small amount of water can cause hundreds and thousands of dollars in damage. Quickly removing it from inside your home is the best way to halt continuing damage and increase the amount of property that can be restored or repaired, instead of having to replace it.

OK, You’re Here. What happens next?

Since you described the problem (and sent a few pictures) to our 24/7 office team, Water Removal Technicians (WRTs) start work immediately upon arriving at your Randolph home. Each SERVPRO team comes with a complete equipment kit to begin drawing out water and moisture.

  • Water Pumps – No matter the size of your home, we have the right-sized, commercial-grade pump. For townhouses and other compact homes, WRTs use equipment that can be easily pulled behind them. If the water has spread out over larger areas or perhaps flooded a basement, team members use longer hoses that connect to the pumping mechanism outside the home. For large residences, our teams bring in truck-mounted pumps that can run off the vehicle’s engine or an accompanying generator for round-the-clock support to clear the home as quickly as possible.
  • Extraction Wands and Other Equipment – These smaller devices are more efficient in homes where the water is not as deep, about an inch or less. WRTs can use wands that attach to a backpack pump and collection container for very small rooms and closets in your home. For long hallways and large rooms, they can use larger devices that connect to an outside generator and containment tank. Where needed, they also have the option of using a device a team member can ride on, carefully watching every inch of carpet and other floorings.
  • Water Absorption Pads – To draw water out of some flooring, WRTs use these pads when there is a risk of damaging the surfaces. They are also very useful on rough, concrete floors and in tight areas where an appliance cannot be moved (i.e., water heater), and the space between it and the floor is too small to effectively use an extraction wand.

The water is gone now, but my home still feels damp and uncomfortable. How do you get rid of that?

After removing the majority of the water, there is still moisture in the air and some water trapped in the floor trim and drywall, even ceiling panels, if the initial leak source was upstairs or in the attic. To detect and remove both, our teams use four key devices:

  • Moisture Meters and Sensors – The sensors help us determine where water is trapped inside the home, and the meters enable us to determine which tools to use and a safe level of operation. The meters can also measure the humidity, or water suspended in the air.
  • Dehumidifiers – These devices draw moisture out of the air, lowering the humidity. The size of the home and the level indicated by the moisture meter determines how many team members set up for operation.
  • Exhaust Fans – WRTs place these at the exits of affected rooms to draw out the damp air, enabling the dehumidifiers to work more efficiently.
  • Air Movers – These devices generate a warm flow of air that we use to carefully force moisture out of walls and ceilings. As the moisture is pushed out into the surrounding air, it is pulled out by the fans or captured by the dehumidifiers.

The humidity level is much more comfortable now. However, there is still a musty odor from all the water.

We can take care of that as well. Most odors disappear after WRTs lift, dry, and re-attach carpets. When odors linger, team members then use a combination of covering odors to disguise the musty smell as they use cleaners on stains and foggers to generate particle clouds that eliminate the odors.

What about my wood floors, can you restore them?

In most homes, yes. After removing the water, team members use the same devices that lower humidity and draw out moisture to carefully remove it from wood flooring. Our WRTs are highly trained to perform this task without cracking, splitting, or otherwise damage your wood flooring.

Will my homeowner’s insurance take care of everything?

It depends on your policy. Most insurance agencies in our state prefer restoration and repair over replacement unless it is cheaper to do so, which means much of what we do at SERVPRO is approved. We carefully follow each agency’s requirements to ensure the cost to you is the lowest possible.

Our goal at SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County is to put you back into your home as soon as it is safe to do so. If you have had any flooding in your home, call us at (973) 895-5000 today to find out more about what we can do for you and your home.

The Real Truth Behind Flood Damage Remediation Options in Randolph

flooded kitchen area When flooding affects the home, time is of the essence. Contact SERVPRO right after an event for water removal and to help prevent a mold infestation.

Flood Damage in Randolph Needs More Than Water Removal

One of the main caveats of flood damage is that it needs attention almost as soon as it occurs for the best outcome. There are often a host of issues that come with the water loss.

When a home in Randolph has flood damage, bringing in professional help to clean it up is paramount to lessening the loss. Because the technicians at SERVPRO are available 24/7, there is never a delay in starting the restoration services.

Prepping for Water Loss Before it Happens

It is a good idea for local property owners to set up a plan for what to do if a water loss occurs. Make a list of valuable items, locations of essential papers, and priceless treasures such as photo albums or artworks get removed before elevated humidity causes damage. If it is not possible to access the items before the techs arrive, the crew chief can get anything needed out of the house.

Common Issues After a Flood

One of the reasons that flood damage has the potential for so much loss is due to the various things that arrive with the water. Debris, chemicals, and sewage are all typical things that the techs have to deal with during cleanup.

Mold is another frequent problem. The naturally occurring airborne spores can germinate within 24 hours, and once that happens, they can spread rapidly throughout the home, particularly on sheetrock and wood framework.

Odor Control

The odor in the home after a water loss can be significant. The technicians have varying types of applications to neutralize any level of musty scents left behind after drying and cleaning.

Rebuilding After Flood Loss

A home can change in looks significantly after a water loss. When the seriousness gets elevated to flood-type damage, things like sheetrock removal, carpet, and insulation disposal are commonplace events. With their general contractor license #13VH06013000, the techs can take the property from cleanup to reconstruction seamlessly and save the homeowner the stress of finding and vetting a local contractor to perform the needed repairs.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000 for assistance with flood damage cleanup and restoration to make the water loss in the home, "Like it never even happened."

Fire Damage Randolph – Secondary Damage

3/10/2020 (Permalink)

Two firefighters on a ladder trying to put out a fire in a second story window. A fire damage in your Randolph home can be devastating, as well as prolonging professional assistance. Call SERVPRO today.

Don’t stall when it comes to your Randolph fire damage, there is so much that needs to be done.

Many fires start accidentally from careless smoking, poor disposal of flammable material, and even electrical systems that short circuit. There are a variety of reasons, however often, the damage done by a fire is secondary to the damage caused by the fire department putting the fire out and protecting other buildings nearby.

SERVPRO cleans and repairs homes with fire damage in Randolph and the surrounding area. We have operated in the area for over eighteen years, gaining a wealth of experience in the process. We are available on a 24 hour a day, seven days a week basis. Our fully stocked trucks have everything we need to clean, repair, and reconstruct your home after a fire.

Water and Fire Damage

Once the fire is out, SERVPRO can evaluate the damage caused by the fire as well as the damage caused by the actions of the fire department to put it out. Often, firefighters have to spray water into ceilings, break walls to access hot spots, and ensure that there is no potential for the fire to restart. Ceiling insulation is wet, the drywall is wet, and carpeting must be replaced due to the water and smoke damage.

Electrical systems and plumbing systems may have been damaged by the fire or by the fire department. Although items such as kitchen cupboards may not appear to be damaged, everything must be wiped down and cleaned to remove soot and smoke residue. The cupboards may need to be removed to enable the replacement of the waterlogged drywall behind them.

While the damage may seem overwhelming at first, our SERVPRO team can develop a plan to remove all of the damaged material, save those items that can be recovered and cleaned, and begin the process of restoring your home to its original condition. We also offer full-service build back and reconstruction services, which reduces the total cost of recovery, and shortens project time as well. Our contractor license: General: 13VH06013000 covers all of the professional subcontractors needed to repair your home.

Your Best Guide to Randolph Water Damage Restoration

3/8/2020 (Permalink)

leaking dishwasher in kitchen Don't fret when leaks cause water damage in your home. Team SERVPRO is standing by 24/7 to take your emergency call.

Restoring Water Damaged Homes In Randolph

As the third-largest community in our county, Randolph enjoys the small-town feel with a healthy dose of big-city opportunity. Growth is steady, but that doesn’t mean the unexpected won’t cause homeowners a sudden headache.

Much of the water damage Randolph residents deal with comes from simple sources like a failing dishwasher or an old water heater tank that finally gives out. When it happens, SERVPRO is ready to meet every disaster with the latest equipment and some of the best-trained personnel in the industry.

As an example, one homeowner recently walked in her front door with her kids to find that their downstairs toilet began flooding sometime after heading out for school. Fortunately, the leak was from a cracked tank so the water was still clean and not backed up from the sewer.

Our SERVPRO response team immediately shut-off the water after arriving on-site and began removal procedures. Since the water was spread thin throughout the home, technicians went directly to water extractors to remove several hundred gallons from the floors and carpets.

Thanks to the adjustable temperature option on the two devices they used, team members were able to increase the evaporation rate without causing damage to the wood flooring, carpets, and linoleum in the kitchen and bathroom. Unfortunately, the carpet pads had been underwater long enough to begin breaking down and required replacement.

As team members lifted carpets, other specialists examined the walls behind the baseboards. Most had just a little moisture, but the ones closest to the bathroom had absorbed a lot of water. To remove it, the specialists brought in air movers and directed warm, dry air over the surfaces to carefully force out the moisture. To draw it out of the home, they set up a box fan that pulled it from the hallway and out the front door.

For SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County, returning homes back to a dry, safe state is always our goal. For residents here or in Chester, Long Valley, and Mendham, call us at (973) 895-5000 today to find out more about what we can do for you.

Hands holding home Your home is in good hands with SERVPRO. We are available day and night to assist you.

Call SERVPRO for Your Randolph Water Damage to Avoid Mold Growth

Attic water damage tends to sneak up on homeowners, especially if the attic is primarily used for storage. Without regular checking and fast mitigation, these spaces can become host to extensive structural damage and mold growth that can lead to costly repairs and replacements for your home. When disaster strikes, however, there is a team you can count on for fast mitigation.

If you require water damage removal in your Randolph residence, SERVPRO technicians are only a phone call away from arriving at your home to restore it to a preloss condition that is clean and safe. The emphasis in SERVPRO's IICRC-based protocols is not just on structural cleanup, but also the maintenance and restoration of your property. If your home requires general contracting for further repairs, SERVPRO is licensed to offer these services (#13VH06013000).

SERVPRO's Commitment to Education

SERVPRO technicians, staff, and franchise owners alike receive in-depth, hands-on training and education in fire, water, and mold damage mitigation and remediation, as well as the restoration of various materials. Empirical measurements and a scientific approach to cleanup are crucial to the success of any home restoration, and technicians get extensive training to stay consistent with IICRC standards.

SERVPRO also offers credit and non-credit courses for insurance and real estate professionals, including the following:

  • Water Damage Restoration
  • Fire Damage Restoration
  • Understanding Mold in the Restoration Industry
  • Restorative Drying for Loss Control
  • Mitigation Awareness Response Seminar (non-credit course)

SERVPRO's Science-Based Approach

One of the essential aspects of tackling any water damage situation is being able to measure the amount of moisture in several sources. Without knowing how much moisture is in saturated surfaces, in the air, or what the ideal humidity of each affected material is, it is impossible to implement a drying plan that fits the needs of your structure.

For example, if wooden supports in your attic are affected by flooding, SERVPRO technicians can use moisture sensors and meters to determine drying goals for the wood. From there, centrifugal air movers can be placed every 10 to 16 linear feet to optimize drying without overwhelming dehumidifiers, which must capture and eliminate moisture pulled up by the air movers. As drying proceeds, polyethylene drying chambers can be erected to increase efficiency.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County supports the community by being Faster to Any Size Disaster. Call (973) 895-5000 to have a team at your home within hours.

Removing Commercial Water Damage from a Randolph Diner

Fire Sprinkler No matter when you make the call, we have technicians who can assist you.

Sprinklers Lead To Water Damage After a Fire In Randolph Diner

Sprinklers are a must-have in any commercial facility, particularly in restaurants, where cooking fires can quickly get out of hand without fast action. Quick-response sprinklers can release plenty of water for putting out fires before they can expand, as much as 8 to 24 gallons of water per minute. However, after breathing a sigh of relief when a fire is put out, business owners and staff may be wondering how to adequately dry so much water before it can cause damage to the building.

Whether your sprinklers have put out a recent fire or corrosion has caused parts to activate accidentally, SERVPRO technicians are prepared to remove commercial water damage from your Randolph eatery quickly. These IICRC-certified professionals use cutting-edge technologies, such as thermo hygrometers and infrared cameras, to evaluate the extent of damage and formulate a plan to remove it effectively. No matter when a disaster occurs in your business, SERVPRO is ready to respond to your call so you can get back to business as soon as possible.

What Sets Off Sprinklers Besides Fires?

  • Overheating- If your sprinklers are located near heaters, skylights, or light sources can cause sprinklers to discharge accidentally. This is because sprinklers typically activate at temperatures above 155 to 165 degrees. Consider installing some high-temperature-rated sprinklers for heat-prone areas of your restaurant.
  • Freezing- This can happen because sprinkler systems typically operate on a wet pipe system, and, when frozen, pressure from the ice can break fittings and open valve caps. After thawing, water can discharge.
  • Corrosion- Whether the sprinklers are old or installed in environments prone to corrosion, this can weaken parts of the sprinkler and release water. Regular inspections and maintenance can prevent these types of sprinkler failures.
  • Damage- Whether from installation or repairs, even small amounts of damage can affect the sprinkler's operating mechanism. Make sure to have a certified professional install and inspect your sprinklers to prevent mechanical damage.

How SERVPRO Removes Water Damage

Even brief exposure to high amounts of moisture can weaken carpeting and pad as much as 50%. SERVPRO technicians can use rovers to suck moisture out of carpet and tent it to help it dry from underneath. Furniture and fixtures are thoroughly cleaned with EPA-registered antimicrobials. These pros also implement extraction wands to remove as much moisture as possible to ensure more effective drying with centrifugal air movers and low-grain refrigerant dehumidifiers.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County helps businesses by making any disaster look, "Like it never even happened." You can call (973) 895-5000 for cleanup 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

A muddy floor in a home after a flood damage disaster We have the training, state-of-the-art equipment, and expertise to handle any flood damage in your home. Call us right away, we act fast.

Recovering After Flood Damage in Randolph

Floods can cause extensive damage to any home. When the floodwater recedes, it often leaves a trail of sludge and debris in its place. This can cause just as much or more damage to a structure that the actual water itself, if not dealt with right away.

You should address flood damage in your Randolph home systematically and quickly to ensure a safe, thorough cleanup and seamless restoration. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) advises that Category 3 water, such as floodwater can contain dangerous microbes that potentially carry illnesses. Technicians may need to remove affected content to an off-site cleaning facility where they receive specialized care and cleaning before returning them.

During the restoration, residents may need to leave the structure to ensure safety. SERVPRO water restoration professionals use personal protective gear while working in exposed areas. They extract excess moisture and water through the use of powerful extraction tools, including portable WAND extractors, self-propelled, or stationary. These tools use body weight to compress the carpet and pad, squeeze out excess water, and then remove the water through extraction equipment.

After removing flood damaged items from the home to an off-site cleaning facility, technicians may perform flood cuts to remove drywall twelve to eighteen inches several inches above the damage so that they can address moisture issues behind the wall by blowing warm, dry air into affected areas with high-velocity air movers and tubing if needed. Air movers work in conjunction with dehumidifiers that pull moisture from the room and exhaust warm, dry air. Our contracting team (General Contractor License: 13VH06013000) repairs the walls after they remove excess moisture and thoroughly dry the impacted area.

Technicians use EPA-registered broad-spectrum disinfectant for nonporous surfaces such as Sporicidin and Microban to control microbial contamination by spraying onto all contaminated materials and surfaces. Products must make physical contact with impacted areas for effectiveness. For this part of the restoration process, occupants should not breathe in the heavy-duty cleaning solutions.

For 24/7 cleanup help after a flood, contact SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at (973) 895-5000. We make it, "Like it never even happened."

How Professionals Remove Fire Damage in Randolph

Professional Fire Damage Restoration in Randolph Gets Results

Homeowners often feel that they can take on fire damage restoration on their own if the house fire seems minuscule. However, even when there is very little charring, and it seems like the damage is minimal, there can be a lot of leftover soot and residue. SERVPRO wants you to know that even the slightest bit of leftover residue brings on lingering foul odors.

When it comes to the fallout of fire damage in Randolph, working with the professionals ensures you get results fast. Trying to do it yourself with over the counter cleaning agents opens up the possibility for hidden moisture or pesky odors as a constant reminder of the fire. Any moisture left behind can cause costly damages and mold or mildew that multiplies. Once this happens, you and your family face with potential health hazards.

SERVPRO technicians can help you address these common issues after a fire loss

Hidden Moisture

Every household has a certain amount of mold spores that remain dormant unless germination takes place. Once you have materials soaked in water from extinguishing a fire, improper drying created a breeding ground for mold spores, which spread at a rapid rate in a short time. We have highly-trained fire restoration professionals at SERVPRO who come armed with specialized equipment to detect hidden moisture throughout the home. If there is water under the flooring or behind your walls, we find it and ensure everything is appropriately dried. After drying, the team applies anti-microbial solutions that help to inhibit further mold growth.

Lingering Foul Odors

Fire leaves behind soot particles that become airborne and may not be visible to the naked eye. Once this happens without proper cleaning practices, fouls odors are left behind. A SERVPRO team deployed to your home works using a multi-layer approach to remedy lingering foul odors left behind from smoke with the help of air scrubbers and thermal fogging technology. Should the situation call for it, we can also clean out the ductwork throughout your home to quell any residual smoke odors.

When you have suffered fire damage, rest assured knowing that SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County is here to help. Contact us at (973) 895-5000, and we can send out a team of trained technicians as soon as possible to get started with the restoration process.

We Are The Right Choice In Mendham Boro Water Damage Restoration

1/7/2020 (Permalink)

A ceiling in a home covered in water spots after a water damage disaster When this home suffered a water damage disaster we worked quickly to limit further damage and prevent mold growth.

When Light Wands Can Help with Extraction in Mendham Boro Homes

The discovery of a substantial water loss incident in your Mendham Boro home can be a stressful and overwhelming experience. Because so many homeowners have trusted in our expertise in water removal and drying, we have built a reputation as a name to trust in making water loss incidents “Like it never even happened.” Part of this equation is having the right tools and equipment for the job, such as light wands for extraction and specific cleaning processes.

Understanding the critical role that light wands play in water removal for Mendham Boro homes can show you the numerous steps involved in clearing out water damage correctly. Light wands are ideal for extraction efforts in carpeted areas, which are prevalent in modern homes. These devices can be useful once submersible pumps have reduced the standing water height beneath two inches.

These attachments are not pumps or vacuums on their own, but instead, get connected to either portable extraction devices or our larger truck-mount extractors. Often the truck extractor offers the most powerful removal strength, but mobile extraction units, including gas-powered trash pumps, can provide more versatility against the limitations of the truck approach. Our SERVPRO professionals can determine the best machines based on the size of the affected area and its ease of access with longer intake lines.

Once our team has removed what moisture the wand can, we can utilize more direct tools to finish drying out the water damage. Light wands can also play a role in the final cleaning and revitalization of these carpeted areas as well. The same tools are an integral part of hot water extraction cleaning techniques designed to break up soil and sediment in the carpeting and improve the look and feel of this flooring.

Having the right equipment for the job helps us to get projects done quickly and efficiently. No matter how severe water loss scenarios might become, you can depend on our expertise and extensive inventory of equipment to make it “Like it never even happened.” Give our SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County team a call today at (973) 895-5000.

When Electric Submersible Pumps Are Not Ideal for Randolph Homes

Removing standing water from Randolph homes is, fortunately, not a scenario that many homeowners contend with multiple times in their lives. However, it is something that our SERVPRO professionals must prepare for every day. Efficient solutions for extraction and drying are paramount to providing a cost-effective restoration approach, and often this begins with the use of our electric submersible pumps. As these are the standard with most water removal projects, it is essential to note when they do not work for residential customers in need.

With the options available to our restoration professionals to begin water removal in Randolph homes, choosing the right tool for the job is the difference in providing the least costly approach for homeowners. Here are some of the times where our team members might second guess the use of electric submersible pumps over other available options.

Available Power

In some situations, power must get severed to a residence to protect our technicians or the occupants of the house. Instead of using a generator to supply power to an electric sump pump, our SERVPRO team can often get a more forceful suction that can address debris and other particulates in the water, with self-priming trash pumps powered by gasoline.

Depth of Standing Water

Electric sump pumps can handle standing water above two inches, but at a lower depth than this, other tools are better for water removal. Beneath two inches, air can get pulled in with the water, causing the pump to lose prime.

Spread of Loss

There are also instances in which these electric submersible pumps are not sufficient to handle the extensive spread of loss throughout a residence. With higher volumes of water spread out over an entire level of your household, more powerful extractors like the truck-mount option can help manage the situation more effectively.

While specific pumps often play a familiar role in the recovery of your house after a water loss incident, we have secondary tools and equipment that can meet the needs of your residence when portable sump pumps are not the best choice. Let our SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County professionals help however you need by calling (973) 895-5000.

Randolph Restoration Professionals Talk About How to Choose Dehumidifiers for Water Loss Events

11/14/2019 (Permalink)

water damaged living room. Parts of waterdamaged ceiling fallen on floor We not only use tools to extract water but also dehumidifiers to thoroughly dry your home after a water loss event.

Comparing Desiccant or Refrigerant Dehumidifiers in Randolph Homes

Though we might have many options regarding moisture removal and drying for Randolph homes, not every tool is right for the jobs that we undertake. The use of dehumidifiers, for example, can lead to a decision on which of our available options is the best fit for each water recovery project. In most cases, the choice comes down to our refrigerant or desiccant dehumidifiers. Although they can both achieve similar results, their effectiveness changes with the situation our SERVPRO professionals face.

The choice between these two units is not always clear, and our project manager and crew chief can monitor conditions during water removal in Randolph homes to have the appropriate units ready for deployment after water removal phases. Flooding can leave a substantial volume of water spread throughout susceptible areas of your house, allowing absorption by many construction materials and structural elements.

When it is time to deploy one dehumidifier or another, many considerations must get made. The process alone for removing moisture in the air is different between these two units, as refrigerants pull air through refrigerated coils, which can condense water vapor, and desiccants pass over silica gel to capture water molecules.

Types of Materials

The type of material that requires moisture removal is a crucial element to choosing the type of unit our SERVPRO professionals need on a job site. Refrigerant units are typically used to address moistures in more porous materials and to address surface dampness. Desiccants are ideal for surfaces and materials with low permeability, such as hardwoods, concrete, and other like surfaces.

Conditions of the Job

A refrigerant dehumidifier requires less power (8-15 amps), making it a wise choice for jobs where the available power is limited. Desiccants often run on trailered generators our team provides, primarily because of their higher power needs (8-30 amps).

Most of the jobs that our team undertakes where moisture removal is a priority, the low grain refrigerant model is sufficient. No matter what your home needs after a loss incident, we have the advanced equipment to make it “Like it never even happened.” Contact us today at SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County (973) 895-5000.

Guests are rarely forthcoming with the damage they can cause to rooms in your Mendham hotel, primarily because they do not want to get charged for whatever repairs and restoration might cost. Their silence in this matter, however, can often lead to water loss situations going unnoticed by the cleaning professionals on your staff as they hurry to prepare the room for another guest. Prolonged moisture and persistent leaks can lead to mold growth in the climate-controlled room.

As you might hope that you can identify these threats before a guest does, mold damage in a Mendham hotel must get addressed as promptly as possible. The first step is to prevent any further activity in this room until the appropriate professionals on our SERVPRO team can arrive and begin scoping out the full measure of these effects. We have sophisticated moisture detection tools that can identify moisture that feeds mold organisms, and might also indicate the migration of the organisms into structural cavities. We thoroughly inspect all areas that could have become affected by the spreading mold colony.

Containment is a vital process for remediation to successfully begin. Leaving active spores traveling throughout the immediate area can welcome situations like cross-contamination, where colonies can develop in multiple areas of your hotel simultaneously. Our containment practices not only provide a drying zone and regulated area for colony removal to take place but also a designated decontamination area to prevent the spread of these organisms beyond this point.

Depending on how long mold colonization developed before discovery, certain affected materials might no longer be salvageable. We have remediation practices like sanding and soda blasting for structurally sound materials hosting colonies, but other areas might require removal and replacement by our licensed general contractors.

Your reputation is everything in the hospitality industry, and so taking care of mold threats as they get discovered is vital to your business model. Let our SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County team show you that We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster. You can reach our remediation specialists 24/7 by calling (973) 895-5000.

Comprehensive Solutions To Flood Damage In Your Mendham Area Home

10/28/2019 (Permalink)

A SERVPRO truck parked in a driveway, with two dogs in it. Let us protect you and your entire Mendham home after a flood takes over. We want to help with every obstacle.

SERVPRO has the solutions for your Mendham home after a flood.

Regardless of when, or how, disaster strikes, you want access to a team of qualified professionals committed to offering expert restoration solutions for your Mendham home. Thankfully, there are several local technicians available with a variety of certifications, standing ready to implement trusted, comprehensive restoration solutions, 24-hours a day.

When you call a professional to clean and repair flood damage present in your Mendham area home, you might think that removing water and cleaning the area sounds easy. However, each situation comes with unique challenges that your technicians work hard to overcome. As a homeowner, it helps to learn as much as possible and maintain expectations as restoration progresses in your home.

The type of paint used during the construction of your home plays a significant role in how your Water Damage Restoration Technicians (WRT) from SERVPRO handle your situation. Flat paint allows water vapor to pass through more readily than a semi-gloss, which makes flat paint dry quicker. Drying floors and walls under or behind cabinetry can take more time, simply because of the existence of multiple layers (cabinet backing and drywall).

If your cabinetry does not have a back layer, SERVPRO technicians can drill holes into your wall, which allows air circulation within the wall cavity. However, if the cabinet has a backing installed, it extends drying time, even if the homeowner allows a technician to place holes in the backing. Often, cabinets have laminated surfaces that act as a vapor barrier, providing technicians with false readings.

Applied Structural Drying Technicians (ASD) from SERVPRO looking to ensure restoration of structural components have multiple drying methods at their fingertips. Since vinyl wall coverings, such as wallpaper, act as a vapor barrier, trapping water within your walls, you have a decision to make. You can either remove your wallpaper or ask technicians to remove base molding and drill holes, using air movers, to force air into the wall cavity without damaging the existing material.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County is an Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) Certified Firm, providing full-service, comprehensive solutions throughout Randolph, Chester, Roxbury, and surrounding communities, call today. (973) 895-5000

Our Fire Damage Experts In Mendham Boro Discuss Factors That Affect An Item's Cleanability

10/8/2019 (Permalink)

Burning House We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

Fire Damage Technicians In Mendham Boro Point Out Factors That Affect An Item's Cleanability

Whenever something ignites on or near your Mendham Boro residence, your property is at risk. Fire damage does not just include dealing with items that got burnt. Smoke, which is composed of partially combusted particles, can also cause its fair share of issues. Smoke can flow throughout your building and leave behind soot residues as well as penetrate some materials deeply, causing unpleasant aromas.

The soot left behind by smoke can become a large portion of the fire damage inside your Mendham Boro home in places that were not directly affected by the heat or the flames. Smoke first rises because it is hotter than the air inside your house. It then gets attracted to cooler surfaces, which make the partially combusted particles cool and adhere to the surfaces of your building materials and contents. After burnt materials get removed from your structure, our SERVPRO technicians then begin cleaning and removing the soils and the soot residues created by smoke coming from the blaze.

When cleaning the surfaces of your negatively affected possessions and structural components, our SERVPRO team uses the best techniques available by assessing how the fire burned. There are many factors that can affect how easily soot residues and soils can be removed. To start, the type of surface dictates how it can be cleaned. Porous surfaces can be harder to clean because smoke can deeply penetrate them.

The age of the surface also affects an item's cleanability. For the most part, older surfaces are harder to clean. This proves to be true when mitigating problems with carpet, fabrics, and paint.

The temperature of the fire also affects how easy soot residues left behind are to clean and remove. When surfaces get got the expand, which makes them more porous. Therefore, the hotter an item gets during the blaze, the harder it will be to clean the soot residues and the soils that remain.

If moisture is applied to extinguish the flames, then the affected surfaces can become harder to clean. Water can cause soils to soak deeper into materials, and it can help soot residues set.

Knowing the factors that change how easy an item is to clean can help the entire restoration project run more efficiently. To get your property assessed by the professionals after a fire, call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County at  (973) 895-5000 24/7 because We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

Mendham Water Puddles or Worse? For Water Damage Mitigation SERVPRO Provides the Solutions

Basement with water spillage needing drying Mendham Homeowners Call SERVPRO to Remove Water from Basements and Living Quarters

Water Removal After a Water Heater Leak in Your Mendham Home

Water heater leaks are not always immediately apparent. The longer they go unnoticed, the more likely you are to have damage in your home. Water seepage can migrate through many materials. Go through the proper water removal procedures to save your home from being harmed further.

Determining The Cause Of Your Water Heater Leak
There are different water removal services in Mendham that can find the cause of the water damage as well as you discovering the apparent source on your own. Because SERVPRO claims of We're Faster To Any Size Disaster, this company can provide a rapid response to mitigate the water damage.

Most appliances like this spring a leak from a loose or cracked valve which loosens over time, and without regular maintenance, they can deposit large amounts of water on the floor or subfloor. Also, the heater may be too highly pressurized on the inside. Excess pressure forces water out of the tank, and it can damage your walls or floors in short order.

Monitoring Equipment Determines Job Completion
SERVPRO technicians use thermal imaging cameras to determine the levels of moisture in an area. Moisture sensors, pronged or smooth, may also be used to check for dampness. These sensors are pushed into the carpet, all the way down to the pad, to find even the smallest hint of moisture. Mold growth can be stymied when the wet materials have been restored to standard moisture content levels of 12% or less.

It is necessary to figure out what type of water is present before the cleanup process starts. Water that leaks from the appliance are considered clean, Category 1 White Water (Gray Water for detergent bearing spillage.) This water can easily be removed without additional precautions or protections. Contaminated water from flooding and sewage (Category 3 Black Water), or urine-tainted toilet water (Category 2 Gray Water) requires special handling.

After the water is removed, dryers and dehumidifiers are set up to mitigate and clean the area thoroughly. This multi-step process is necessary to prevent further damage in your home properly, and to eliminate the damage that has already occurred.

Randolph Property Owners Know that SERVPRO Provides Solutions after Structural or Cosmetic Damages from Cleanup to Rebuild

9/11/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO SUV Wrapped in Logo Design Parked in Client Driveway No Matter the Damage--Storm, Fire, Mold, or Water--Randolph Homeowners Love to See SERVPRO on the Job

Why SERVPRO Restoration Services Can Consistently Exceed the Expectations of Randolph Homeowners

Property care and maintenance can help to prevent you from incurring expensive damages and keep your insurance premiums low. Occasionally you may run into a property issue that is difficult to prepare for which is why we set up SERVPRO here in Morris County. Our restoration services encompass mold, water, fire, and storm damages while our training covers even more than that. For homeowners in need of restoration services that could reduce the expense of your claim and help you handle the paperwork on your behalf, you can contact us twenty-four hours a day on our emergency line to arrange for a call out.

Mold

Microbial fungi, known as mold, has a habit of cropping up during wet or humid periods of the year. Any small malfunction in your insulation, attic spaces, ventilation, or crawlspaces can lead to microbial growth issue. Sometimes, these effects are immediately apparent, and you can carry out remediation yourself by cleaning away soiling and enlisting the help of a professional plumber. Other times, mold damage in your Randolph home may be extensive, which is when you should seek out professional restoration services.

Mold grows when spores settle on damp spots in your home. Mold itself, is present in dust and considered a natural part of the home environment. However, uncontrolled mold growth can cause problems for some because it creates musty odors and is unsightly to look at. Infestations naturally spread outward from the source of moisture and can contaminate porous materials that then must be disposed of professionally to ensure the issue does not return.

SERVPRO mold assessment and remediation technicians are capable of handling mold issues from start to finish. Using thermal imaging cameras, we can trace the source of moisture and shut it off. We may need to temporarily remove restrictions like tiles, floorboards, carpets, and drywall to allow our drying equipment to do its job before removing soiling from surfaces and materials. Unfortunately, some materials may not be salvageable, in which case, a SERVPRO technician can place them in sealed containment bags and carry them to a designated waste facility. Once the infestation is removed, we can replace materials and repaint surfaces to make it, "Like it never even happened."

Fire

When materials burn, they release several chemicals into the surrounding environment in the form of smoke. Some of these chemicals can be harmful; others can cause smoke residues and staining. Hot smoke seeks out cooler surfaces and clean air, which means an electrical fire in your living room can cause significant smoke damage to your staircases or passageways. We have technicians to help restore fire damage in your Randolph home using tried and tested restoration methods.

Once you have arranged a service with one of our customer service team, you can begin mitigating loss in your home by laying old sheets over floors, carpets, and staircases. When temperatures cool, soot deposits and ash begin to drop from ceilings, which can cause further damage to the surfaces below. You can vacuum these deposits once surfaces have been covered to help remove loose ash or soots to speed up restoration procedure. On arrival, SERVPRO technicians can take over the cleaning effort and begin restoration service procedure. The other option, and safer, is to simply wait until our crew arrives to begin the cleanup.

Walls and ceilings require professional attention because they are naturally cooler and therefore buildup thicker smoke and soot deposits. Your SERVPRO technician has to consider which cleaning techniques and chemicals can be applied without causing further damage to the paintwork of your Randolph home or the unnecessary spreading of soils. Once the removal of soiling is complete, we can dry the property, deodorize it using fogging equipment then set to work refinishing, and repainting areas of damage until your Durham home is restored to its pre-incident condition.

Storm

Large loss recovery teams are designed to handle restoration services for a severely damaged property from start to finish. If you are unfortunate enough to suffer severe storm damage in your Randolph home and have been temporarily relocated, you can trust us to restore start to finish on your behalf.

In large loss scenarios, it is not uncommon for your Randolph property to become extensively damaged. Windows may be blown in along with doors and other areas of structural weakness in the home. Overnight, heavy rainfall may enter the property, causing waterlogging as well as water damages to possessions. The longer these items are exposed, the greater the likelihood of permanent issues, which is why SERVPRO offer pack-out services and storage facilities for Randolph homeowners that have become displaced by a storm event.

Pack out restoration services involve removing contents from your home for safe storage while the repair is carried out on your home. SERVPRO technicians can inventory your belongings and arrange for professional movers or us to transport them to our climate-controlled warehouses. Without possessions, the structure of your home can be dried efficiently, secured, and prepared by our general contractors (General Contractor License #: 13VH06013000) to arrive and conduct remodeling, rebuilding, and repair on your home.

Water

Water leaks do not have to be severe to cause water damage in your Randolph home. A slow leak can be just as harmful over time and, in some cases, more harmful, as they are frequently spotted by homeowners at a late stage. Issues with sealants or plumbing can often linger out of view in your property slowly weakening materials and discoloring areas of the home. Once you spot the signs of an internal leak, which may be an odor or visible signs, you should contact professional restoration services immediately to prevent further losses.

SERVPRO technicians are available throughout Randolph and have the ability to conduct restoration services on-time using a combination of experience and equipment. We can temporarily remove floorboards, drywall, and other physical barriers to get to the source of your water issue. In situations where temporary removal or demolition may be time-consuming, our team can use a full inventory of moisture sensors, meters, hygrometers, and thermal imaging cameras to find water without performing demolitions.

Wall cavities in your Randolph home can be notoriously hard to remove inner residual moisture. To tackle this issue, a SERVPRO technician can deploy structural cavity drying equipment to get the job done. We start by removing the baseboard at the bottom of the wall and drilling small holes four inches apart. These weep holes allow us to insert injector nozzles along the baseline of your wall. By switching on the injectidry system, we can then circulate hot air directly into the wall cavity without having to remove the wall itself, resulting in a full restoration of your water damage issue.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County have decades of experience delivering restoration services that consistently exceed your expectations. Reach out to us today at (973) 895-5000.

Factors that Can Affect the Restoration Process of Your Flood Damaged Mendham Home

9/9/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO equipment in a basement that has water on the floor. Your flood damage in Mendham means something to us, we want to help.

We will always go the distance for your Mendham water damage.

Many Mendham residents have experienced the effects of flooding over the years. These events highlight the importance of seeking help from experts with specific knowledge and experience in flood damage remediation. Getting the process of flood damage recovery wrong can cause your home to develop serious moisture problems in the months to come, and this can add distress if you need to vacate your residence for a second time.

Restoring your flood damaged Mendham home quickly can reduce potential future problems and allow you to occupy the home sooner. After a flooding incident, you should do a few things to ensure that your home is safe for you and your family to occupy. They include:

  •       Checking if some insects and rodents could have come in with floodwaters.
  •       Looking for ruined gas and power lines, exterior damage, and foundation cracks.
  •       Looking for shifted stairs, broken pilings, and slanted walls or floors.
  •       Turning off power and water lines.
  •       Checking for cabinets and other items that could fall over.
  •       Checking if the running water is safe to use for cleaning or drinking.

Once you check these issues, you can document the flood damage by taking photos or videos to prevent disputes with your insurance firm over the problems that have been repaired. You can then call SERVPRO franchise professionals to assist you with cleaning up your home. We can assess the destruction and provide you with our remediation plan and estimate.

One factor that can affect the restoration process of your home is the nature of the flood. The existence of biological or chemical contaminants, sewage effluent, sand, silt, and soil in the floodwater dictates the way we manage the recovery process. If there is solid waste, soil, and debris on the floor, our technicians can use rakes and shovels to remove them. This helps expose structural surfaces for further evaluation and inspection.

Floodwater and the debris it carries can exert extreme pressure on the structure of a building. Therefore, we consider the height the water reached and its rate of flow inside and around a home. We also consider the construction of a building because water affects different materials in various ways. Brick and concrete are resistant to water damage, while wood can be resistant to short-term dampness. However, wood decays if it stays wet from a lengthy period. Dense materials usually absorb little water but dry gradually, while porous materials can absorb large amounts of water, but dry faster.

We perform a thorough investigation after removing the standing water to establish a base level from which to monitor the drying process. Our crew uses several devices to monitor moisture levels, including thermal imaging cameras, moisture sensors, and moisture meters. Our SERVPRO crew speeds up the drying process using heat, ventilation, and dehumidification.

When in need of flood damage restoration services in Randolph, Mendham Boro or Chester, call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County. We are locally operated and available around the clock for help. Our helpline is (973) 895-5000.

Hydroxyl Generating Machines Help Complete Water Damage Restoration Work in Randolph by Eliminating Odors

After our building services crew (working under General Contractor License # 13VH06013000) repairs a leak in your plumbing and our restoration team gets your home dried out and back to normal, you might notice new and unpleasant odors inside your Randolph home. Many residents assume we use an ozone generator for such situations, but we have an option that provides numerous benefits we cannot get with ozone.

Attacking the odors affecting your property in Randolph after finishing water damage mitigation and restoration becomes more effective with a hydroxyl generator. Part of the reason we choose to turn on our hydroxyl generators is that ozone can cause additional damage in many homes. Living things cannot survive in an environment flooded with high concentrations of ozone. Even fish in an aquarium can die if their tank's aeration system carries ozone into their container. Plants can also die when ozone competes for the carbon dioxide in the air.

Many other items can sustain damage from exposure to ozone. Items made out of rubber, many types of glue, and other substances might need additional restorative work if we were to use ozone. Instead of risking the condition of your home, we instead use a hydroxyl generator to perform deodorization.

Hydroxyl generators separate water vapor molecules (H2O) into single atoms of hydrogen and hydroxyl radicals (*OH). Once in the air, these actively break substances down into harmless pieces that cannot produce odor. Because we can run our machinery even while we continue working, the extra amount of time that it takes for adequate treatment of odors does not affect our schedule.

Because odors have been attacked from the start, the deodorization process ends up being more effective in the long run. This increased effectiveness occurs because hydroxyl radicals have had the opportunity to eat away at odor-causing molecules inside walls, under floated carpets, and other locations where odors come from before we finish mitigating water damage and restore these places.

When odor-causing substances remain after water damage mitigation, days of higher humidity can let these odors return. Using our hydroxyl generators instead of ozone machines prevents this from bothering your family in the future while protecting your belongings from the harm ozone can cause.

SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County also covers Mendham, Chester, their Boros, and Long Valley. Our Flood Damage Technicians Can Handle Any Size Disaster In Your Randolph Garage

To get the right solution for any challenge after flooding in your home, call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County to assist.

Dealing With The Unique Challenges Of Flood Damage In Your Randolph Garage

Flooding that primarily affects the garage area might not seem like a major threat, especially if you do not have many items or junk stored in the area. With most garage floors made of a concrete slab, thorough cleaning and extraction of standing water might seem like the only steps necessary to restore normalcy. However, since concrete readily absorbs water, there is a need to do more to avoid the problems a saturated floor would pose. Our professional flood damage mitigation services help deal with those unique challenges.

The garage being a vast open space means that significant amounts of water accumulate quickly. Such water can lead to various types of flood damage in your Randolph home, including fueling mold infestation all over your property. Since immediate extraction might not be possible when water outside the structure is yet to recede, one step to reduce damage is removing as many dry items from the garage as possible. Our SERVPRO technicians help move items to a dry section of your home or an offsite storage facility.

Extracting the water from the floor may require advanced equipment that can lift thousands of gallons within a short while. Cleaning the heavy soiling left by floodwaters might also require advanced equipment to ensure the area attains sanitary levels. Our SERVPRO teams rely on sophisticated equipment such as truck-mounted water extractors to expedite water removal. We also have pressure washers that help remove mud, silt, and other soils left by the floodwaters.

A saturated floor can keep causing opportunistic problems after dealing with the initial loss. The fact that garages have limited ventilation further compounds the situation. Completing specific drying steps can help fix the problem. Our SERVPRO technicians first scope the area using moisture detection equipment to establish the degree of saturation. We then set a drying goal, which determines the number of air movers and dehumidifiers necessary to eliminate all the moisture “Like it never even happened.”

To get the right solution for any challenge after flooding in your Mendham, Mendham Boro or Chester home, call SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County to assist. You can reach us any time at (973) 895-5000.

Why We Are The Leader In Mendham Flood Damage Restoration

6/12/2019 (Permalink)

Our professionals restored this home from significant water damage. We responded quickly, which limited further damage, call us right away.

Why SERVPRO Is the Solution for Managing Mendham Flood Damage

Torrential rains and accompanying high winds can expose your Mendham home to the risk of flooding. Roofs, windows, and siding take a beating during increasingly more common extreme weather events. The harm done needs a fast and efficient response, which is why hiring our team of highly-qualified flooding remediation technicians is a prudent decision. Rely on our training, experience, and state-of-the-art equipment to return your damaged home to “Like it never even happened” condition.

Flood damage in your Mendham home following severe weather conditions requires professional assistance. Our team arrives with some expectations about the tasks needed, but we also assess the circumstances of your particular flooding loss carefully. The crew leader develops a plan based on your scenario, and crew members immediately begin its implementation. Our employees are trained in the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) best practices in all tasks needed from securing exterior damage to flood mitigation to applied structural drying. Effective cleaning and disinfection are also skills we apply. The full range of flood remediation services we offer is why our team delivers successful flood damage abatement.

Once tarping and boarding up limits further exposure to the elements, our team begins water removal. Flooding deeper than two inches pumps out, and then we use wanded extractors to eliminate the residual. The faster flood waters evacuate, the better the outcome which is why SERVPRO avoids delay by stocking the needed equipment on each service vehicle. We follow local rules as we contain and dispose of the water.

The availability of alternative power sources is another reason why SERVPRO is a reliable partner in flood damage mitigation. Stormy weather often knocks out the electricity as trees fall on lines or lightning strikes transformers. Our submersible pumps use gas or are connected to portable generators as are our truck mounted water extractors.

Thorough moisture removal is crucial to your home’s structural integrity and is why SERVPRO technicians use a range of thermal imaging and moisture monitoring equipment to ensure no hidden caches of water remain trapped. Controlled demolition such as flood cuts gives our team access to pockets of water and permits better airflow as we complete drying.

The answer to why SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County should be your first call after flood damage is the difference our trained technicians and high-efficiency equipment make. Call 24/7 for our professional services at (973) 895-5000.

Protect Your Home From Plumbing Issues On Vacation

10/29/2018 (Permalink)

Flooded basement caused by broken pipe.

You’ve probably been saving up for this trip for a while, so why end a great vacation by coming home to water damage? While you’re enjoying the beach with your family, a small leak can turn into a more serious problem.

Make sure to safeguard your home against plumbing disasters by checking out the following tips

Check the Flapper Valve

The flapper valve is a simple mechanism in your toilet tank that allows it to refill after every flush. However, sometimes flapper valves can get hung up, causing them to not form a proper seal or close at all. When this happens, the water will continuously run in vain to fill up the tank. When you’re at home, you can easily hear the water running and quickly remedy the problem. However, if you’re not in your home, the water will continue to run, driving up your water bill.

Shut Off the Main Water Supply

If you are going on vacation for several weeks, it may give you extra peace of mind to shut off the main water supply. This will ensure that no leaks will happen while you’re away, preventing that scenario in your head where you come home to find significant water damage. Even if you aren’t going on vacation in the foreseeable future, it’s still a good idea to familiarize yourself with where your main water supply shut off is and how to use it. That way, during an emergency, you will be able to easily locate the main water supply and shut it off.

Shut Off Hot Water Heater

If you shut off the main water supply, make sure you also shut off the hot water heater. If you leave your hot water heater on without proper water supply, it will still continue to heat, potentially causing damage. Hot water heaters are used to heat water for showers, baths, and cleaning dishes and clothes. However, if no one is staying in your home during your absence, there’s no need to keep this system running.

Have Someone Check In

No doubt, you have a checklist of things to get done before heading for the airport. For example, when people leave for extended vacations, it’s common to have a friend or family member stop by the house to make sure the mail doesn’t pile up or to water the plants. However, make sure your designated person also checks the house for plumbing issues. A quick walk through the house should suffice to catch any leaking pipes before they become a larger problem. This strategy can save you from extensive water damage after a relaxing vacation.

Mold found behind paneling in a basement in Randolph.

A pipe break caused this basement to flood. SERVPRO of Southwest Morris County was called in to remediate the water damage but excessive mold was found behind the paneling. Here are some tips that can help avoid mold issues in your home.

MOLD PREVENTION TIPS

  • Be sure your home has enough ventilation. Use exhaust fans which vent outside your home in the kitchen and bathroom. Make sure your clothes dryer vents outside your home.
  • Fix any leaks in your home’s roof, walls, or plumbing so mold does not have moisture to grow.
  • Clean up and dry out your home thoroughly and quickly (within 24–48 hours) after flooding.
  • Remove or replace carpets and upholstery that have been soaked and cannot be dried promptly. Consider not using carpet in rooms or areas like bathrooms or basements that may have a lot of moisture.

Some tips for Fall home maintenance.

Before the weather grows colder it’s important to prepare for the winter months to prevent damage. Below are the fall preventative home maintenance steps.

Gutters and Downspouts

  •  Clean gutters and downspouts frequently throughout fall to prevent build up of leaves and other debris. Neglected gutters can lead to wood rot and water damage.
  • Be sure water is not coming down behind gutters and that all support brackets are securely in place.

    Plumbing

  • To prevent pipes freezing and bursting, ensure that the pipes are well insulated.
  • Know how to locate and turn off the water shut-off valve in case pipes do freeze.

Chimney and Fireplace

  • Call a professional in to inspect and clean your chimney. Fireplaces that are regularly used during the season should have an annual cleaning to prevent dangerous chimney fires.
  • Test your fireplace flue for a tight seal when closed.

Attic ventilation

  • Be sure attic insulation doesn’t cover vents in the eaves to prevent winter ice dams on the roof.
  • Be sure ridge vents and vents at eaves are free of plants and debris.
  • Check bird and rodent screens for attic vents to prevent any unwanted guests.
